    The British empire and the Chinese empire went to war over drug addiction . At first the British were addicted to simulating Chinese tea , but then resulted in a trade imbalance because the Chinese bought a few European products and demanded silver or gold in return.(1838-1842)

    The handover was during 1842, the Chinese emperor gave up hong kong island to the British, bringing and end to the first opium war. China later gave up the Kowloon peninsula in 1860 ending the 2nd opium war.

    The first Sino-Japanese war was fought between the Qing empire and the empire of Japan , after more than six months of unbroken success by Japanese land and the navy forces and the loss of the port of Wei hai wei, the Qing government sued for peace in February 1895

    World war 1 started on June 28, 1914 when a Serbian man assassinated Archduke Frans Ferdinand was in line to be king of Austria-Hun, and, a powerful empire in the centre of Europe, a month after the assassination, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. 9 million soldiers died, and 23 million more were wounded

    Japanese occupied Hong Kong for 3 years and 8 months, then they surrendered after world war 2.In 1941 Japan occupied Hong Kong which lead to food shortages in Hong Kong, and also when Japan occupied Hong Kong Island it caused residents who lived in Hong Kong Island to move to mainland.
