History through my eyes.

  • Oklahoma City bombing.

The Oklahoma city bombing was one of the most destructive terrorism acts in the United States until September 11th ocurred, meaning if nothing like that has happened before, this event occured to prove that time and people's mind were starting to change. This event brings impact to my life by proving that there were many other harsh things that my generation was going to face for the next years. Although the bombing was a while ago its impact still seems to affect many families in the U.S.

  • Shannon Faulkner becomes the first women to attend The Citadel, a state supported all-male Military college in South Carolina.

Being the first female cadet to enter The Citadel, this is another event which proves that times were not only changing in a negative way, but also in a good way. Sexism was starting to slowly fade back then, many opportunitines were given, and many doors were starting to open for women. Such thing is good for my future, because it showed that times were going to be better by the time I grew up, and it did happen that way, sexism is not a big issue now a days, women have gained freedom!
  • I took my first step.

  • I finallly started going to school.

I finallly started going to school.
  • Columbine High School massacre

    Columbine High School massacre
The Columbine High School massacre was caused by two seniors Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, who attented to CHS, they shot other students to get back back at them for bullying. This event proves that violence in school was starting to increase. The Columbine has affected my life in school, because there are too many steps that we have to follow in order to be safe, when it shouldn't be that way in school, we should only focus on learning, not on how to be safe.
  • My parents got divorced.

  • I moved into a new house with my mom and siblings.

  • September 11 attacks.

    September 11 attacks.
9/11 impacted the U.S. in so many ways, it not only destroyed many people's lives but it also showed the extent to which some nations hate the USA, and it also made the goverment spend huge amount of money on security, which has its good and positives. This event has impacted my life by making me think what was going on with the world, and if all of that violence was really necessary, it also got me thinking if such a terrible thing could happen in Brazi, which scared me a lot.
  • The War in Afghanistan began.

    The War in Afghanistan began.
Coming from a Country that doesn't know what it's like to be involved in a war, seeing the U.S.A getting into all of these violent events scared me a lot. The War in Afghanistan demostrated that the U.S. was involved in violence more than any other countries. I have never understood the reasons to start a war, I don't believe that wars can fix problems, so seing all of that going on made me really scared and confused on why such a thing would happen.
  • Troops from the United States invaded Iraq.

Bush said we needed to invade Iraq because he thought Saddam was tied to Osama. Saddan was interviewed by FBI agent George Perro, Saddam said he had no ties with Bin Laden, that only proved that the invasion of Iraq was a waste. This event is only another event to prove that war is not necessary and it only made me think even more about how much I dislike wars.
  • My mom decided to move to the USA for working purposes, leaving me living with my older siblings in Brazil.

  • The USA soccer team made it to the finals in the World cup playing against Ghana.

I have always thought that the United States wasn't into soccer (I finally got the idea when I moved to the U.S) seeing them making to the finals of the World Cup really surprised me, since I've never thought about the American team being good. This event showed me that the U.S. is not only about Football, and Baseball. It also made me happy to see that with time the number of countries that are getting involed with soccer are increasing.
  • My Grandmother passed away.

  • I got to see my mother for the first time in 5 years.

  • My mom decided that it would be best for me to move to the USA for school purposes.

  • Barack Obama was elected, being the first African American to hold the office.

Barack Obama was elected, being the first African American to hold the office.
After all of those bad events, here is finally one that made me happy and change my mind about the United States. The election of Obama impacted my life by showing that people are equal under any circumstances, and I'm sure that it did not only impact my life, my many other lives out there. Making a change is always good, and surely this was a great one!
  • I moved to Manville, and started to attend Manville High School.

  • American Red Cross helped Haiti recover from earthquake.

American Red Cross helped Haiti recover from earthquake.
Here is another event that changed my mind about the United States, it proved that the nation is not only thinking about war and money. After such a tragic event, United States was the first country to help Haiti recover from the earthquake, which made the nation look great. This event made me realize that sometimes we have to stop and do what really matters.
  • Suicide of Tyler Clementi.

The impact of Tyler Clementi's suicide is severe, shocking and lasting. I do not think it's fair to judge someone by their sexual orientation, it's the same as judging someone by their race. Tyler Clementi's death I'm sure it did not only impact my life, but it also impacted many lives out there and showed people that it is not okay to hurt someone to the point where they want to end their lives. I hope it doesn't take more people dying to make people change their minds on homosexuality.
  • Obama decides to visit Brazil to discuss business and to build a relationship for the future.

This event had a huge impact on my life, first of all because Dilma Rousseff was the first Brazilian women president. Then seeing both countries that are important to me, being in good terms and discussing business for the future means a lot, also because Brazil was never really involved with the United States. It also proves that both countries are trying to improve their relationship.
  • US forces kill Osama bin Laden.

US forces kill Osama bin Laden.
Osama's death did not only impact my life, but it also impacted many American Citizen's lives, and I'm pretty sure it also impacted the middle East. Seeing a person who has caused so much pain to other human beings gone sounds good for now. I don't know if there are going to be any consequences from Osama's death in the future, but I believe and hope this is only one more issue that was solved.
