    The battle of Hastings

    The battle of Hastings
    This battle started because William, Duke of Normandy although he was more distantly related to Edward than Harold, he demanded the throne of England. The meeting of the two armies was at Hastings on 14th October 1066-a crucial moment came when Harold was killed. After this the English were overcome and the country was without a strong leader to oppose William.

    At the top of the social order of feudal society were the nobles -from kings, dukes,earls, and down to knights, who occupied the lowest rank of the nobility. Below the nobles were the clergy. Then there were peasants and then vassals.
