    Louis XVI became king following his grandfather and he tried to modernize the French Monarchy but he lacked the authority to do so.

    The French joined the Amercan Revolution in 1778 and helped them defeat their mutual enemy the British. The war effort left the French Government broke which lead to more discontent among the French people.
  • French Revolution Begins

    With the Declaration of the Rights of Man the French Revolution began and the march on the palace of Versailles.
  • Louis XIV is arrested

    Louis XIV is arrested
    Louis XIV was arrested and tried before the National Convention. They convicted him of high treason and it was decided that he would be given the death penalty. On January 21, 1793 Louis XIV was beheaded with a guillotine. A constituional monarchy was set up as the government of France.
