The third estate, claimed to be the National Assembly took an oath to pursue a constitution on Louis XVI. Things went well for a while until Versailles had to be surrounded by troops and dismissed a popular minister who had supported the reforms. This ended in the storming of Bastille.

A crowd of Paris civilians and some rebel soldiers stormed the Bastille that kept gunpowder and prisoners. 7 were inside and the man guarding the structure wasn’t prepared, panicked, and he then surrendered. This structure was torn down later.

Murderous riots had begun during the first week of September 1792 in Paris. On September 2nd gangs of armed sans culottes stormed most of the city’s prisons and killed between 1,100 and 1,400 prisoners. Paris at the time was in a blood thirsty state of anarchy.

After abolishing the monarchy, the French National Convention voted to establish a republic. It had been built by the people for the people. They did return to monarchy a few times but France has a more republic stance now.

This man was being convicted of conspiracy with foreign powers and had a death sentence by the French National Convention. He was taken in on a vacation with his wife. His wife followed him in being executed.

Marie Antoinette was put on trial for treason and theft. She was found guilty and beheaded just as her husband King Louis XVI.

The terror was being escalated just when foreign invasion was no longer a threat, and a team of the right and the left formed to go against Robespierre and his followers.
