    Philosophy
    The Enlightenment was a period where philosophy and ideas were spread throughout France and was put into books for the common people to have access to. Many ideas, such as equal rights, women's sufferage, and demorcratic ideas for a government were introduced, which actually was spread to the colonies, where they revolted and successfully gained freedom from England.
  • Uproar among Peasants

    Uproar among Peasants
    Peasants during this time had heard of the successful revolt in the colonies, and were wanting change in France due to this. They were starving, and many people were dying due to a shortage of food. Due to this problem, the king called for an assembly of notables, which hadn't been called for over 200 years.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    Tennis Court Oath
    The meeting was called in order to figure out a tax reform as well as stop the regulation of grain price, but during the meeting, the third estate made a list of grievances calling for a limitation on priviliges of nobilities and an end to tithes of the church, as well as limiting taxes on farmers. After this, they went away to dicuss stuff and were locked out of the main room. because of this, they gathered in the king's tennis court and made themselves a new national assembly.
  • Fall of the Bastille

    Fall of the Bastille
    With the new National Assembly, french soldiers were quivering, and people were starting to feel the gain in power. While trying to gain an upper hand, French rioters attacked, and raided the Bastille, taking many weapons and freeing a handful of prisoners, while slaughtering many French guards there.
  • Women's march on Versailles

    Women's march on Versailles
    With newly gained weapons and rumors of Marie-Antionette hoarding grains, angry women marched up on the palace of Versailles demanding that the king and queen move away. Very threatened by this march, they mved to Paris, making Versilles lose it's power, as well as weakening the grip of power held by the old regime.
  • King and Queen Guillotined

    King and Queen Guillotined
    As opposition towards the King and Queen grew, they were both eventually tried and executed, starting with the kings trial and execution. When the queen was "tried", she was found guilty with a LOT of other people. She was guillotined.
  • The Terror

    The Terror
    With the King gone, and international and civil war at hand, and a food shortage, chaos was losing control. The republican government of France responded to this by creating The Committee of Public Safety, or better known as "The Terror." This committe was responsible for killing people based off of rumor, or accusations of being against the current government of France. They created a sense of terror and fear among the people. The Committee of Public Safety was eventually disbanded in July 1974
  • Napoleon

    Napoleon
    When France was finally forming a government, they chose 3 leaders. One of those leaders was Napoleon. Napoleon, who was in charge of the army, knocked out the other two leaders and declared himself emporer of France, ending the revolution the way it had begun, which was with a monarchy.
