    This key event began as the meeting of the "three estates" (nobility,clergy and peasants) because of the extreme debt due to war and crop failure. Some issues included the number of votes each estate would get. The conflict was because the third estate believed they should get more votes because they have more people.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    King Louis the XVI did not like the formation of the Assembly, so he ordered that the building they meet in (the Salle des Etats) to be closed. However the Assembly meet anyways at a local tennis court called the Jea de Paume. While at these meetings the members took an oath to keep meeting until they were recognized as a government body.

    The third estate decided that they were being underrepresented so started meeting in secret calling themselves commons. Then eventually some nobles joined along with most of the clergy and some peasants. They called themselves The National Assembly. This with some changes restored faith with some capitalists giving them interest to keep the Assembly in power. They also formed a committee to deal with food shortages.

    The Storming of Bastille
    The Third Estate was nervous about the King gathering the French army to attack them, so to arm themselves they first took over the Hotel des Invalides in Paris. They did find muskets, but had no gunpowder. Rumored to have gunpowder and prisoners oppressed by the king the Assembly stormed Bastille. There was some fighting but then the soldiers joined the crowd surrendering the fort and gunpowder.

    After long negotiations the constitution was reluctantly accepted by the King. Redefining the organization of the French government, limiting its power. Set out to represent the interests of the general will.It abolished many institutions that hurt liberty and equality.

    King Louis the 16th was put on trial for treason by the national convention.He was convicted and sent for death. On January the 21 he was beheaded.

    The reign of terror begins due to conflict between Girondins and the Jacobins. During this time if there was even a suspicion of anti revolutionary people, those people were sent to the guillotine to be killed.

    Maximilian, the maker of the revolution's reign of terror is overthrown by the convention. When captured he was sent to the guillotine to be killed.
