    After the tennis court oath the national assembly would start to make a new constitution. It gave rights for everyone to vote and gave the lower class less taxes. This was Frances start to becoming a republic.

    Storming of Bastille
    The French third estaters broke into and burned the bastille, which was a large prison. They did this because there were debtors there and there were rumors of weapons being stored there. The bastille also represented tyranny for the third estaters.

    The National Convention didn't do much in their 4 year span. But they did create the committee of public safety to make sure Louis XVI didn't come back to power.

    The committee of public safety were a group made by the national convention. Maximilien Robespierre was the leader of the committee and caused 30,000 deaths. He executed anyone who was conspired to be in internal enemies. That was someone who didn't support the national convention.

    The new constitution took problems from the old one and revised it. Now france was more liberal by becoming a republic. It had a franchise based on payment taxes.

    There were 5 men who held power, they were chosen by the legislation and the council of 500. Even though it seemed good, the directory was full of corruption and inefficiency. This causes it to be overthrown later.

    Napoleon conducts coup d'etat against the directory
    Napoleon performs the coup d'etat by convincing that the councils that the Jacobins coup was about to happen. With the council gone Napoleon got access to the local troop and performed his coup. When he is in power he creates the consulate. Which had three consuls including Jean Jacques Régis de Cambacérès, François Lebrun and Napoleon himself.
