King Louis XVI called forth the Estates General together for the first time in a long time to approve on his new tax form. This meeting was held in Versailles and featured the clergy, the noblemen, and the rest of France all together. Louis's solution on taxes expenses was to impose taxes on the nobility. This event was important during the French Revolution because for the first time in 175 years, the people of France got the chance to get together and discuss a matter.

After being removed from the Estates General, the Third Estate agreed to establish the National Assembly. 3 days later the delegates of the Third Estate found themselves locked out of their meeting room. They then broke down a door to a tennis court and swore that they would not leave until a new constitution was made. It's important because it led more nobles and members of the clergy to join the Third Estate delegates.

After rumors saying that Louis wanted to dismiss the National Assembly, angry revolutionaries stormed the Bastille. The mob that stormed the Bastille attained gunpowder and weapons that were kept in the prison. Around 100 people were killed during the fighting. It's an important event because since then, the fall of the Bastille became an important and symbolic day to the French people where they honor the lives that were lost during this day.

On August 4th 1789, noblemen declared their love for equality and liberty. Other members of the National Assembly joined them which led commoners to be equal to nobles and the clergy. On August 26, the National assembly declared the rights of Man: equality, liberty and fraternity. This was an important event because women and children were not included and led a writer to publish her ideas of a declaration of women's rights which were rejected and led to her execution.

On October 5th 1789, women marched on Versailles to protest and revolt about the high prices of of bread. This movement was encouraging more and more people to join it. It was a success and the French people were able to press their demands upon King Louis XVI. This event was one of the most important events during the French Revolution because it gave the revolutionaries confidence in the power of the people over the king.

The Civil Constitution of the Clergy is published allowing the French government to have control of the Church and try to reform it and regulate it. However, the government was in real need of money so they started selling land to the Church.This event required bishops and clergy to swear an oath of loyalty to the state. This event is one important event during the French Revolution because soon the Church became a department of the state.

During the French Revolution, Louis XVI and his family tried to escape France to avoid retribution from the revolutionaries. They wanted to go to the Austrian Netherlands. However, their attempt to escape failed when someone recognized the King from his portrait on a French bank note. This is one of the most important events in the French revolution because it led to the death of Louis XVI and his wife.

The Reign of Terror started in the early months of 1793 and ended in July 1794. This was caused because of a disagreement between two political parties: the Jacobins and the Girondins. Robespierre, leader of the Jacobins, managed to take control over France and rule as a dictator. He did not hesitate to sentence people to death if he felt that they were not in complete agreement with him. It was an important event because Robespierre ended up being executed which ended the Terror.

On January 20, 1791, King Louis XVI was convicted of conspiracy with foreign powers. He was then sentenced to death by the French National Convention. On January 21st 1791, King Louis XVI was executed by guillotine in the Place de la Revolution in Paris. This is one of the most important events in the French Revolution because Louis's death led to a more important event which will be discussed shortly, the Reign of Terror.

As mentioned before, during Robespierre's term, everyone lived in fear. Some members of the National Convention turned on Robespierre because they feared their safety. He then went to guillotine after the demand of the members of the National convention.This is one of the most important events in the French Revolution because when Robespierre was executed, the power of the Jacobin fell with him and the Girondins gained more power.
