The panic of the Great Fear showed the peasants anger with the system of feudal obligations. Landed aristocracy in the National Assembly seized on the idea that the way to stop violence in the countryside was to renounce privileges. The aristocracy stripped themselves of their rights and privileges. On August 11, 1789, the Assembly abolished serfdom. -
March on Versailles
The rumors of Louis XVI's offensive court party spreads throughout the streets of Paris. Women marched to Versailles for bread. The mob takes the royal family back to Paris. The Declaration of the Rights of Man is signed. -
Civil Constitution of the Clergy
They nationalized the church to control it. The National Assembly passed the Civil Constitution of the Clergy to make the government control it. The clergy was paid by the government and now had to be elected by the people. It made the French government superior to the Pope. -

Marie Antoinette was convinced to leave with her family after unrest in Paris. They were found and led back through Paris through a jeering crowd. -
Paris Mob Attacks the Tuileries
Hungry, distrustful of government, and discouraged by failures in war, Paris seethed with discontent. They storm the Tuileries, where the royal family was. The Legislative Assembly dissolves and is replaced by the National Convention. -
September Massacres
3000 prisoners in Paris were planning to stage an uprising. The "September Massacres" were sparked by the Prussian army threatening Verdun. Jean Paul Morat and a mob killed 1600 prisoners. -
The Execution of Louis XVI
They debated whether or not to execute Louis the sixteenth. The French government decided to kill him with the guillotine. -
The Execution of Robespierre
On Robespierre July was 28 executed. Robespierre was deserted by his supporters and accused of being a tyrant. Robespierre wanted to extend emergency powers, but others felt that the emergencies were over and wanted to return to regular administration. -
