    Calling nd Meeting of the Estates General
    When the King and the Estates General met to discuss taxes they instead were forced to discuss they way i which discions should be made. The Third Class wanted to votes to count per person but the Estates did not. The Third Class in retaliation formed the National Assembly.
  • Storming of the Bastille

    Storming of the Bastille
    The king sent troops to get rid of the National Assembly. the people were angered by this and the poorer class attacked the Bastille. even though some dangerous criminals escaped from the prison during the attack it was and still is seen to symbolize what the people hated about the acient regime. The nobles fled in fear after seeing the people's rage.

    Feudalism Abolished
    The National Assembly abolished feudalism and published the Decleration of the Rights of Man. This gave people freedom and rights.
  • The Civil Constitution of the Clergy

    The Civil Constitution of the Clergy
    The National Assembly created this constitution to say that the clergy would have to be elected and regulated by the government. This helped to ensure that the people would not just be under the control of wealthy nobles and safe guarded their rights.

    The king tried to flee but did not succeed. he was forced to accept the new constitution that would make France a constitutional monarchy.

    France went to war with Austria and Prussia. The king wanted the war to gain popularity or to be defeated so that he could regain his power.

    After the war it was voted that King Louis would be executed. this would cause more wars with other European countries.

    The country was suffering after the wars and the Commity of Public Security came under the control of Robespierre. He begain a reign of terror executing thousands of innocent people. Robespierre was arrested and executed on July 27, 1794 for his crimes.
  • A New Constitution

    A New Constitution
    The new constitution installed the Directoire wich appointed five directored who were elected annually by parliment. In this new regime any riots were handled by the army. The General Napoleon Bonaparte became very successful.
  • Napoleon's Coup

    Napoleon's Coup
    The General Napoleon Bonaparte staged a coup, prclaimed himself dictator and later emperor of France. This was the end of the Republican phase of the French Revolution.
