the bastille was a fortress in Paris. It was attacked by a mob of Parisians who believed there was a supply of weapons and amunition. They captured the prison and released the prisoners and killed all the guards.

King Louis XVI, fearing for the lives of himself and his family, tried to escape to Austria. They hoped that once in Austria, the would be safe. They failed to escape because at the border of Austria they were arrested and sent back to Paris.

This was important to the French Revolution because they weren't standing up for their kingdom and just ran. -

he was tried by the National Convention and found guilty of high treason. He was put to death January 1792. The only king of France to be put to death.
