    France's timelineHenry IV put into action which marked the end of France's religous wars.
  • The Thirty Years War

    The Thirty Years War
    This war was over religion, territory, and power among the ruling families of Europe. It was caused when Ferdinand II ,a Catholic ruler, closed down some Protestant churches. This caused the Protestants and several Princes of Germany to revolt.
  • Ferdinand II

    Ferdinand II
    Ferdinand was the head of the Hapsburg family. He was also Catholic and a foreigner to the people of Bohemia, which he ruled over.
  • Louis XIV is born

    Future KIng of France is born to Louis XII and Queen Anne of Austria.
  • The Sun King

    The Sun King
    Louis XIV is knnown as the Boy King,because he became king at the age of 5. He is also known as the Sun King,because the sun was the symbol of Apollo, the sun god, Louis XIV thought he and Apollo were similar,because they governed with peace and were patrons of the arts.
  • The Peace of Westphalia

    The Peace of Westphalia
    This treaty ended the Thirty years war. It weakened the Hapsburg states of Spain and Austria, strengthened France by giving it German territory, made German princes independent, ended religous wars in Europe, and introduced the idea that people would meet to settle problems of war and decide the terms of Peace.
  • Cardinal Mazarin dies

    Cardinal Mazarin dies
    The cardinal Mazarin dies leaving the throne in complete control of the 22 year old Louis XIV.
  • Palace of Versailles

    Palace of Versailles
    Louis XIV added on to the simple hunting lodge his father had bought. Louis XIV wanted the Palace to house him and he wanted it huge, the construction of the Palace cost a lot and put France in debt.
  • Edict of Nantes revoked

    King Louis revoked the edict of Nantes. This caused many of the hugeknots to convert to catholcism or go to jail. Many hugeknots ended up immigrating.
  • King Louis dies

    The King dies, leaving the country in great debt from the construction of Versailles.
