Calling of the Estates
The king called for representatives to attend a meeting. They discussed whether if the both the first and second estate should be taxed or not. Th nobility and clergy arguesd agianst it and the third estae created the National Assembly.
Cause: king and his advisors wanted to tax the first and secon estate.
Effect: King ended meeting and National Assembly was created. -

Voting issue and Tennis Court Oath
The 1st and 2nd estates wanted voting to be by estates so they could easily vote on thiings they wanted but the 3rd estate wante dvote to be by population so they could easily vote for things they want. The National Assembly was locked out fo their usual meeting place and went to the Tennis Court where they took the oath where they kept on meeting till they had an constituion.
Casue: 3rd estate fed up with the 1st and 2nd estate idea for voting by estate and created the National Assembly. -
Stroming of the Bastille
The people revoted and overrunned thefortress to get gun powder and weapons. Many citizens and guards were killed. It was a symbol that showed the people had power to overthrow the king.
Cause: King denied the voting of head which angered the people.
Effect: Many people died. The citizens got the weapons and gunpowder and the downfall fo the Bastille became a symbol. -
Declaration of Rights of Man and citizen
National Assembly drafted the document which gave equal rights to all citizens.
Cause: 2rd Estae was treated unfairly and had no privlages compared to the 1st and 2nd Estates.
Effect: King had to approve it and gave rights to the 3rd Estate. -
The Women March on Versailles
Women rioted over the high prices of bread. The corwed force the King and his family to come to Paris with them.
Cause: High cost of bread.
Effect: King and his family forced to go to Paris with them. -
Civil Constitution of Clergy
Forced the Clergy to swear an oath that supported theCivil Constitution .
Cause: French Gov was bankrupt and the Churh land was 20-25% of frances land where the Church collected the money.
Effect: Many clergy members left. -
The King's Escape
The king and his family try to flee the country to the safetyof Austria. However they get caught and are presummed traitors.
Cause: King id not like the uprising of the Constitution Monarchy and wanted to have all the power and not share it.
Effect: King presummed for treason and led o his execution. -
France declares war on Austria and Prussia
Girondins voted for war on Austria and ended up with a yes. King wanted Frnace to lose so he could regain his power.
Cause: Politics drove France to War. Girondist and the king wanted to vote for war.
Effect: Frnce does declare war on ausstria and Prussia. -
Attack on Tuileries
Austria threngthens if the King and his family get hurt they will destroy France. Backfires, and citizens attack Tuileries. King flees and is stripped of his title.
Cause: Threat form Austria
Effect: King is stripped of his title. -
Creation of National Convention
Suceeded Legislative Assembly and founded the republic. CReated an Constitution that allowed elections of the Legislative assembly.
Cause: King fled and stripped of title. Republic created.

Execution of Louis XIV
King was arrested for treason and to start the new Republic they had him executed by the Guilitine.
Cause: Treason and start of Republic.
Effect: First victom of Reign of terror that killed thousands of people. -

Gov formed the Commite during the Reign of Terror. Commite executed anyone who was a political enemy of the Gov. Robespierre was executed and ended the Commite.
Cause: Gov. created Commite for the rebellion while it was busy on the war. Executed thousand of people. -

A speech given by Robes Pierre. Said the goals of his.
Cause: His rule under the Reign of Terror.
Effect: Purged France of Catholicism and created new calandar. -
Robesppierre is Executed
Conventions ordered the arrest of Robespiere and then soon was executed. Thus, ending the Reign of Terror.
Cause: People hated how he reign and tried to kill him. Later, hre was commited of murder and arrested.
Effect: Convention lost authority and prisons were emptied. -
Thermidorian reaction
A vote by the National Convention to execute Robespier and other members of the Reign of Terror. He was in a number of conspiracies that came together on 9 Thermidor.
Cause: Commite of Public Safety gone giving the Convention got more controll of Government.
Effect: Robes Pierre executed. All Jacobins executed as well. -
Napoleon defending the National Convention
Napoleon showed his militaristic brzvery by defending the Convention by annihilating its enemys. Rewarded him command of the French Army.
Cause: Mob attacking the National Convention.
Effect: Commander of the French Army. -
Consulate is Estabilished
Napoleona decared himslf First Consul which made him the head of the Republican French Government.
Cause: Overthrew current Directory and started a new Government, the Consulate where he became first Consul by popular vote.
Effect: Napoleon put down rebellions endwars with Austria and Britain. -
Napoleonic Code
Code by Nepoleon that stop special privilages given by birth, freedom of religion, and Gov. jobs were given to most qualified. Override past fuedal laws.
Cause: Napoleona thought the old laws were confusing and out of date and France did ot have a law but followed old customs.
Effect: His reforms gave more rights and freedom to the third estate. -
Concordant with the Pope
Civil Constitute of Clergy. Agreement with Napoleon and the Pope to bring back the Roman Catholic Church as a common church in France. Was the religion of mojority but not official state language.
Cause: Settle problems with the Church.
Effect: Roamn Catholic Church was the main religion of France. -
Napoleon is Crowned Emperor
The Pope crowned Napoleon Emperor of France. Ment to discourage assasinations for hopes of renewing the old Royal family heir line.
Cause: Popular vote with the people.
Effect: Led to Napolionic Wars. -
Continental System is Estabilished
British navy blockaded French coast during the Napolionic Wars. He issued Berlin Decree which stopped all British imports to France and tried to hurt it's economy but failed to smugglers.
Cause: Britich blockade of French coast.
Effect:Berlin Decree that only weaken Napolian coalition. -
Invasion of Spain
Military conflict between France and Spain which led to the Peninsular War. France was defeated. Napoleona resourses were drained as Spain held off France.
Cause: Military conflict between France and Spain.
Effect: France lost the war. -
Invasion of Russia
Attempted to ingage and defeat the Russian Army. Napoleona wanted the Russians to stop trading wiht the British. However, Napoleon was forced to leave due to shortage of supplies.
Cause: Wanted Russia to stop trading with Britain.
Effect: Moscow burned but had to leave after supply shortage. -
Battle of Leipzig
Was also name Battle of the Nations where Russia and their alliances was fighting France and their alliances at Leipzig. Losing the first battle Napoleon returned to France where was invaded a year later. He then was exiled.
Cause: Was forced to fight after the retreat of Russia.
Effect: France soon invaded and exile of Napoleon.
