King Ferdinand wished to force the residents of Bohemia to be Catholics. The citizens were Protestants, so there was obvious conflict. After five years of war the conflict ended. But the German government saw an opportunity to gain territory so Bohemia was at war again. MEanwhile, other European countries wanted in on the action. For example Poland wanted Sweden's land and parts of Russia. Spain was also in on this too, but they lossed very badly. They lost their dominance and the Netherlands.

This ended the Thirty Years Wars, and changed how nations governed. This prevented senseless wars, and it encouraged diplomacy. This also solidified the map of Europe, and it confirmed Protestantism as an official religion.
