  • Queen Elizabeth I dies

  • James I of England becomes the king

    Becomes the first king to rule both England and Scotland at once. Also inherited the unsettled issues of Elizabeth
  • James I dies

    He dies of natural causes
  • King Charles I becomes king

    Son of James I

  • Petition of rights is created

  • Charles I dissolves the parliament

    Charles dissolved the Parliament in 1629 and refused to call it back to session
  • The laws of Autumn of 1641 is created

    The laws limit the royals power
  • English Civil War

    Fought by supporters and opponents of King Charles [ Cavaliers or Royalists versus Puritan supporters of Parliament ]. At first neither side could get an advantage. In 1644 the Puritans found a leader that could win - Oliver Cromwell. In 1645, Cromwell’s army defeated the Cavaliers. In 1647, the Puritans won and had the King held prisoner.
  • Charles I executed

    It was revolutionary, never before has a reigning monarch faced a public trial or execution.
  • Charles brought to trial

    Charles is found guilty for treason and sentenced to death.
