    In May of 1948 the new independent state of Irael was founded in the Middle East, granted by the United Nations. immediatley after being granted independence Israel was attacked by Egyptian, Lebanon, Syrian, and Iraq forces. At the height of the war, the Israeli Army only counted 100,000, but managed to fight off a force of four seperate armies, srtiking critical capitols of trade in Egypt. the war ended in July of 1949

    In n anti- British riot in Cairo 20 people were killed and hundred of others were injured. Of the 20 17 British civilians were burned alive as anti-British government protestors set fire to major downtown areas.     Egypt, and Jordan sign a defense pact that agreed to withdraw forces from Sinai, whilr closing the gats of Taran. King Hussain, president of Jordan signed the pact on May 30th.     Sadat Assasinated
    President Anwar Sadat, was assassinated as he watched a military parade celebrting his decision to end war with Israel and, end foriegn relations with Soviet Russia. The assassins were disguised as military men, and fired rifles and threw grenades at Sadat, and the rows of government officials behind him, 11 were killed and 38 New York Times
