I was born on September 16, 1863. My family was very proor and I lived on a land lords land. I was the oldest Son of six. Because I was the oldest son My parents exspected me to uphold the faimaly farm so I could continue to pay the rent to the land lord. My family were potato growers and had almost lost there land durring the potato famin.

This year was exstreemly rainy. It rained for 63 days strait. Because of all of the rain the potato crop died so they could not be sold in the market. I had no money to pay the land lord so i was in debit. soon after i left with all my belonings and a little money.

I had made A small log caben on my proporty. Also I had started my farm growing Corn, potatoes, lettuce, and tomatoes. I would Trade with the Indians or other Setlers the food that I did not need. Every thing had been going great until one year that had very a lot of snow in the winter, floods from snow melt and rain in the spring ,and then the summer was two hot; so that year the plats did not grow very well. Because of this 4/5 of my crops died.

Because of the bad wheather i had nothing to trade. 3/4 of my crop died. So I had to just eat what I had and get by. most other farmers had the same problume. Even thought it was hard I'm very glad I decided to come to America.
