  • Biological Father Was Distant

    When I was little, my dad wasn't a huge part of my life. Until the age of 4, when he had me over to his house every other weekend. We missed out on each other during these years spent apart.
  • Moved to a New Neighborhood

    When I was 8, my parents bought their first home. I was forced to move to a new neighborhood and leave my three best childhood friends. We have continued to stay in touch over all the years. In spite of this, I still miss my old neighborhood, my old yard, and my tiny old house.
  • Little Sister Moved Away

    My half sister moved out of state, after our father and her mother divorced. This distance between us made us grow apart. I am still not close with her, to this day. I wish it could have been different because we both really needed each other.
  • Death of Family Dog

    When I was in the third grade, my family dog had to be put down. I was there for the procedure and I helped my parents bury her in the backyard. It was terribly sad.
  • Family Dynamics Change Due to Alcoholism

    When I was in the 6th grade, my mom began to drink heavily. Although I was not aware of what was going on, I knew the family dynamics had changed in a negative way. My parent's relationship was suffering.
  • First Heartbreak

    In the 8th grade I was forced to break up with my first major boyfriend. We had dated for two years and I really loved him. I was devastated, and I still miss him to this day.
  • Severed Most Cherished Friendships

    At the end of 9th grade, my three closest girlfriends decided they didn't like me anymore, and refused to hang out with me or talk to me. This experience really impacted my in many ways. I view friendship differently and I am more closed off and antisocial because of it. On the other hand I learned many positive things from the happening as well.
  • Quit Playing Soccer

    I was an amazing soccer player. I had trainers tell me I could have been on an olympic team. I loved the sport and played for many years. When I was a teenager my parents did not encourage me to play, and they were not around to take me to practice or games. I quit and I have always regretted the choice.
  • Parents Split Up

    When I was in 10th grade my parents split up. I lived with my dad for a short while, and then I moved in with my cousin. My life was basically turned upside down and I did not deal with my emotions at all. I repressed everything.
  • Loss of Family Home

    My dad sold my family home shortly after him and my mom separated. I basically became homeless, until I moved in with my cousin.
  • Husband Deployed to Iraq

    My husband deployed to Iraq for a year when I was pregnant with our first child. I was constantly worried for his life.
  • Became a Teen Mom

    I had my first child at the young age of 19. I was so happy to be a mom, and I was married to my best friend. I grew up too soon, but I still chose to be responsible and independent.
  • Best Friend Moved Away

    My lifelong best friend moved away to Washington. I missed her every day, and basically became a loner.
  • Dad Died by Suicide

    In 2019, my dad died by suicide. His death was the hardest thing I've ever experienced. Life is not the same without him here.
  • Loss of Esthetics Business

    My former employer sued me when I started my own Esthetics Business. It was a loss of time and money.
  • Paternal Grandmother Died

    My paternal grandmother died of the flu last january.
