I was born on June 7th, 1980, in the small town of 100 Mile House, British Columbia. (This picture is actually of me as a 3-year-old with my infant sister, Kelly. It was the oldest picture I could find online. I don't have easy access to my family's physical photo albums presently.)

Despite living in a very small town, I was fortunate to enter a French Immersion kindergarten program that my mother had organized and advocated for. (My mother and father were both fairly recent transplants from Montreal, albeit mostly anglophones.) The picture is of me, probably not quite kindergarten age, and my older sister, Leah.

Art was my central focus and passion during high school. My high school, Peter Skene Ogden Secondary, had a mild and mostly unsuccessful experimental streak, but one positive that came out of it was something called a career prep program, which basically allowed me to take a lot of art classes. Notably, I had a memorable and effective art teacher, one Robert Law.

For the first two years after high school I studied Fine Arts in Montreal at Dawson College. I lived with my grandmother, one Kyra Emo.

After deciding not to pursue a career in art, I studied philosophy, mostly, at Capilano College (now University) in North Vancouver.

Not knowing what direction I wanted to take with my life, career-wise, I decided to expand my boundaries by living in a foreign country. I taught English in Guangzhou, China for most of a year. The was the most formative time of young adult life and cemented my desire to become a teacher.

I returned to Canada to complete my undergrad at UNBC in Prince George, BC. There I met my future partner, Roxanne McLeod.

I had 6 months to spare between the end of my undergraduate studies and the start of my teacher training program, so I taught for 4 months in Seoul, South Korea.
-
I completed my teacher training at UBC Okanagan in Kelowna in 2007/2008

Here is a picture of where Roxanne and I were engaged, Canim Falls, BC. We married on July 28th, 2008 in Prince George, BC.

We moved back to Prince George in 2017. Then I started my first of 3 years teaching grade 6/7. My fourth year starts this week. Theo has been attending the school where I work since grade 1.
