Computer History Timeline

  • Vacuum Tube

    Vacuum Tube
William DeForest invents the vacuum tube. We don't use vacuum tubes now a days but back in the old days they helped regulate the current flow in the computer.
  • Flip-Flop Circuit

    Flip-Flop Circuit
Two American physicists, Eccles and Jordan, invent the flip-flop circuit. This helped store information in the computers itself.
  • Teletypewriters and Teleprinters

    Teletypewriters and Teleprinters
Teletypewriters and teleprinters come into limited use in Britain, Germany and the US. We could actually start typing and learning more!
  • Differential Analyzer

    Differential Analyzer
The Moore School differential analyzer is completed, It helped us solve differential equations.
  • Magnetic Core Memory

    Magnetic Core Memory
An Wang develops magnetic core memory, We had a device that could keep things for us so we wouldn't have to go through the same process to get where we needed.
  • Transistors

    Transistors
Gordon Teal develops transistors based on silicon, It helped switch electronic signals.
  • Mouse

    Mouse
Douglas Englebart develops a working mouse. I think this is a great milestone because we can now manuever the computer!
  • Floppy Disk

    Floppy Disk
The floppy disk is introduced. It is a storage disk. So we could put stuff on it and take it out and take it to a different computer.
  • Cellular Phone

    Cellular Phone
Cellular telephones are first tested in Japan and Chicago. We could call each other whenever now! We didn't have to go in a house and use their phones.
  • Compact Disk

    Compact Disk
Sony announces the Compact Disk. It's a DVD!!! We could hear the audio and see images!
  • 68040 Chip

    68040 Chip
Motorola releases the 68040 chip. It manages communication!
  • PCs

    PCs
Approximately 1 billion PCs been sold. It's great to see people take computers home and stuff.
