Constantine defeated his co-emperor and became the ruler in the west. He established christianity and created a capitol for the roman empire in the east. The edict of Milan was a proclamation that permanetly established religious tolerance for christianity in the roman empire. the proclamation let people have freedom to worship whatever they please. They also esured christians of leagal rights including the right to organize churches.
