  • Prenatal development

    When my mom conceived me, my father is an alcoholic so that had health problems on me when I was born.

    While my mom was pregnant with me, my father was physically and emotionally abusing my mother.
  • I was born

    I was born
    I was born on June 24, 1996 in Ketchikan, Alaska. When I was born, I was born with jaundice and a leaking valve in my heart. This affected my health problems growing up.
  • Independence

    When I was 16 months I was potty trained. I think that this was important because it shows that I'm independent and learned responsibility at a young age.
  • Negative impact

    When I was two years old I witnessed my father hit my mom for many years. This had a negative impact on my social development.
  • Preschool

    When I was 3 years old, I started preschool. I was the top of my class and one of the first kids in my class to learn how to read.
  • Moved

    We moved the summer after I graduated from preschool my mom moved my sister and I to Ketchikan because my dad moved without telling us and she wanted us to be together.
  • Ketchikan living

    Living in Ketchikan made me ahead in school, I went to a charter school and was able to understand 3rd grade reading when I was the 1st grade.
  • Moved back to Metlakatla

    We packed our things abruptly and moved back to Metlakatla. This surprised me and I didn't know what to expect.
  • Made a huge decision

    When I turned 12, I decided to kick my father out of my life because I realized then how toxic and unreliable he was, and I did not like that.
  • Promotion

    I promoted from the 8th grade to high school on this day and it was the best day of my life. I was excited to start my new journey as a teenager.
  • Bad relationship

    I got my first boyfriend when I was 15 and he ended up abusing me. But we, thankfully, broke up two and a half years later and I never went back. This affected my outlook on other guys and scared me out of relationships for a while.
  • First job

    I started my very first "real job" as a waitress at a resturant in my community. It made me realize how important it was to save money and it helped me become more responsible, especially since I worked during school too.
  • First day of work

    I started my first day of work at Wil la Mootk Counseling Services and that was the best decision I ever made in my short life. It made me realize how much I love helping people and making a difference in other people's lives.
  • Senior year of high school

    I started my first day of my last year of high school. I was very excited to graduate and go to college. This helped me mature and realize that I was going to be an adult soon, so I became more responsible.
  • GRADUATION

    I graduated from high school and it was the best day of my life, it was also the night I found out I received enough scholarships to cover my college education for 4 years. I was so excited and proud that all my hard work paid off and those late nights were worth it.
  • FIRST DAY OF COLLEGE

    This was my first day of college and it was the start of the best/worst four years of my life and I was very pleased with my choice of schooling.
