    This document was created to help reensure the Latin American colonies would not get colonized by Europe. It stated that the colonies were not subjects for fututre colonization. It was not very enforced at first though.
  • Opium War

    Due to the deaths from Opium in Chine the emperor wanted to stop the trade and when Britian refused war broke out. Most battles from the Opium war were fought at sea and China was defeated. They signed a peace treaty, the Treaty of Nanjing.

    War between the Ottomans and the Russians broke out over land. This war was important since it was the first war where women served as army nurses. The Russians lost under the compared powers of the Ottomans, France, and Britian
  • Treaty of Kanagawa

    Treaty of Kanagawa
    After the Japanese had inacted the closed door policy for awhile the United States and other European lands wished to opeen trade again. After many qttempts to reopen ports for trade U.S commodore Matthew Perry took ships to Tokyo Japan to deliver a letter. Japan ended up opening two ports and made the Treaty of Kanagawa.

    After having some of their land taken by Russia, the British began showing more and more interest in Persia. In 1857, Persia tried to resist the British's attempt to claim land, but ultimately had all their claims taken on Afghanistan, which were taken by the British. They also began to sell parts of their land to coporations.
  • Sepoy Mutiny

    Sepoy Mutiny
    After gossip had spread that the British had greased the guns wit beef and pork meat, the Muslims and Hindus refused to use the guns. This ultimately let to them being jailed by the British. They began to rebel and they took over the city of Dehli, and the rebellion began to spread through India. The British ended up having full command of India.

    In Eqypts attempt to modernize the land a man made waterway was created. It was a celebration international but due to the large expenses of the project Eqypt went in debt.
  • Belgium began to sign treaties with local chiefs

    Belgium began to sign treaties with local chiefs
    The treaties gave Belgium control of the land. This turned out to go the opposite of what was intended. Leopold supposedly wanted to abolish slavery but actually exploited it more.
  • Berlin Conference

    Berlin Conference
    The Berlin Conference was held to discuss the division of land between the nations. Even though the conference decided Africas future there were no African Leaders.
  • Battle of Adowa

    Battle of Adowa
    With the ruling of Menelik II, Ethiopia was able to successfully able to drive out the Italian forces and kept thier nation independent. Menelik continues to stock weapons in case of another war.
  • Spanish-American War

    After the Spanish began to take control over Cuba and force people into concentration camps, the Americans launched an attack. Spanish military collapsed under the surprise attacks and Cuba became an independent state.
  • Boer War

    After the Boers settled in Africa and the British took over their land the Boer war began. The British began to burn down thier houses and imprison the woman. The Britian won the war.
  • Boxer Rebellion

    Boxer Rebellion
    Boxers had surrounded the European part of town and would not back down to the Dowager Empress' word. After a few months troops had marched to them and the boxers were quickly defeated. Even though they failed it brought more unity to Chine to fight foriegn forces
  • Russo-Japanese War

    After Japan launched a surprise attack on Russian ships the Russo-Japanese war broke out. Japan drove Russian troops out of Korea and captured their troops. In 1905, they discussed treaties and they ended up signing a treaty
  • Panama Canal

    In order to make travel easier between the two oceans they wanted to create a waterway. It took many years to do, when it opened it began one of the greatest engineering accomplishments in 1914.
