    Muslims conquered Spain by 732 and were looking to continue to expand their empire. Charles Martel encamped on a wooded hill and forced the Moors (Muslims) to fight uphill into trees. After 6 days of waiting, the Moors attacked and Martel's forces held them back. Martel had successfully defended france.

    715, Pepin the Short, son of Charles Martel, will ask Pope Zachary to name him king of the Franks. Pope Zachary agrees and sends St. Boniface to appoint him. Soon after: 754 Pope Stephen II will travel to france and annoint Pepin and his two sons again. In return for the papal support he asked for protection by the Franks.

He made them convert to christianity. anyone found breaking his rules or worshiping false gods would be executed. 782, 4500 Saxon rebels were arrested for worshiping false gods and attacking his forces. Charlemagne had them all executed. the River was said to have ran red with blood for several days folowing this.
