Leaving Italy
The economy has been slowly declining and bad has turned to worse in Italy. Thousands of acres of vineyards have been destroed by plant lice and the new high tariff on wine has nearly ruined the econonmy of Italy's wine-growing region. I have choosen to leave Italy in order to find a job in America to support my family. I will be leaving my wife Giulia here in Italy until I can find a stable job in America and find some land. -

Arrived in America!
I have just arrived in America and what a beautiful sight it is! Ellis Island was one of the worst and terrifying expiriences I have ever been through but it was all worth it . The worst part about Ellis Island was the medical inspection. The journey was long and rough but it will all be worth the journey when I find a good paying job in this new land. -
My First Job
I have finally gotten my first job here in America! I have gotten a job as a shoe maker at a local shop just down the road from where I have been living.I have been living in a apartment that has no windows or running hot water. My hands are sore from the hard work. This will be my source of income until I can find permanent land for Giulia and I to live on. I will send money to Giulia in weeks when I get my first paycheck which wont be much. -
Letters From Giulia
Today I recived my first letter from Giulia I was very happy to finally talk to her. I miss Giulia and my home in Italy but I have to wait until we find a stable home where we can live. I have been thinking of quiting my job here but dont know where I would find a higher paying job. It might be time for me to move again. I have been very busy working and haven't had time to reply to Giulia but I will reply to her shortly. -
Sending For Giulia
I have now just sent a letter to Giulia telling her she can come! She thinks she will be arriving May, 16th. I have sent most of my saving from working to her to send her on her voage. I am looking for new land in the west so Giulia and I can head west when she arrives here. Hopefully she will be up for the journey. -
Land In California
There are large amounts of land in California! It is so beautiful and it reminds me of Italy, I have been told there is potential wine vineyards there and the climate is just like Italys. I hope moving here will remind me of Italy and I can get a job working in the vineyards or the railroads. -
Moving West
Gulia and I are preparing for our move west. This will be dangerous because there is told to be war in the west because of land. Moving west was rough and sometimes I felt as if we weren't going to make it to California. I cannot wait until we settle on our land.We have met some new friends while on our way. -
Chinese Exclusion Act
Today while working on the railroad I met a new friend, Ping Wang. Because of the Chinese Exclusion Act he had traveled here but his family was not able to come with him because of the new revision that suspended Chinese Immigration. I have become very close with Ping and feel very sorry for him and his family. Hopefully he will get to see his family soon. -
Settling In the West
We have finally settled in the west it was a long and rough trip but was all worth it in the end. Giulia and I have found land and we are living here now. I have found California very much like Italy. My job right now is to work on the railroads, this is cheap labor and dosent pay much. I am so happy here and I think my family is too. This land feels like Italy and reminds me of home I am so happy we settled here
