    The Battle of Tippecanoe Creek
    Indiana’s territorial governor William Henry Harrison led U.S. troops to victory in the Battle of Tippecanoe. The defeat convinced many indians in the Northwest Territory (including the celebrated Shawnee chief Tecumseh) that they needed British support to prevent American settlers from pushing them further out of their lands.
  • Battle of Detroit

    Battle of Detroit
    American troops under General William Hull invaded Canada from Detroit. Hull feared he didn't have enough soldiers so he retreated. The Britidh took advantage and captured more than 2,000 American soldiers.

    The Americans try to Invade Canada (Battle of Lake Erie)
    A key three hour battle took place at Put-In-Bay, in the western part of the lake. The American flagship was badly damaged but Oliver H. Perry switched to another ship and won the battle. The British were forced to retreat to Detroit.

    As the British and the Indians retreated into Canada, General William Henry Harrison defeated them in the battle of Thames. A big Indian leader, Cheif Tecumseh, was killed.

    US Naval Commander Oliver Hazard Perry captured a British fleet on Lake Erie
    An American Oliver H. Perry had a battle against Robert H. Barclay (British), on Lake Erie. The victory gave Americans control of Lake Erie for the rest of the war. It forced British and their Native American allies to abandon Detroit and go back to upper Canada
  • Napoleon's defeat in Europe, allowing British to commit more troops to U.S.

    After Napoleon's defeat in Europe, Great Britain sent 18,000 veteran troops to Canada. It was important for the British to have more troops in America to fight the war.
  • British attack Washington D.C. and burn the Capitol and Whit House

    A British army occupied Washington, D.C., and burned the Capitol and other buildings. It was important because a lot of damage was done such as burning the Capitol and the White House which Americans would later have to rebuild.
  • British attack Baltimore

    Baltimore's Fort McHenry withstood 25 hours of bombardment by the British Navy. British forces subsequently left the Chesapeake Bay and began gathering their efforts for a campaign against New Orleans.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    The British attacked New Orleans and the American troops under the command of General Andrew Jackson defeated the British in a one-sided battle. Andrew Jackson became a national hero and was later elected president.
