    On the Boat
    [TRANSLATION]

Dear journal, Today is my fifth day on the boat on my way from Ireland to America. I have endured many hardships in my journey from middle Irleland to the eastern port citys, and managed to find myself a cheap ticket, a night in a room with a bed and a bowl of warm food, the first I had had in weeks.Boarding the ship was a mass of confusion and scurying jacketed bodies, the hoods of their wool coats thin with a layer of falling snow. I hope to keep alive

  • Purple Foot

    Purple Foot
Today was the gradest day of my life! as I stepped off the fairy boat after being transported from Ellis island, there were people everywhere. Carriages rolled along in the streets and spring flowers were draped from the windows of buildings, casting shades of all colors upon the faces of the brick monoliths. Alas, my joy did not last for long; as I stepped into the street, I was so distracted by the seemingly impossibly tall and beautiful buildings that a horesdrawn carriage ran over my foot.
  • Land Sale

    Land Sale
I have recently accuired a poster, advertising the sale of Native American farmland in the West. I have long been considering moving west for the cheap, large lots of farmland, which was one of te reasons that I decided to come to America. I just couldn't bear the thought of moving away from my lovely Irish neighbors, among which I have made lifelong friends.
  • Christmas Dinner

    Christmas Dinner
Today I had the most delightful guest, a young woman about my age that I met at our streets' local Vespers Gathering. I live in a small house but I am lucky enough to have furniture and uncracked, clean walls due to the income I recieve from my job in service to an Irish Physician. We spoke from sun up to sunset about how had been graced to live in such a great area of the city that had not been hit by disease and filth as bad as other places, on a hill with a great sewer drainage system.
  • Chinese Exclusion

    Chinese Exclusion
Walking down the street today, I was horrified to see a scruffy looking asian man and his wife wrestled in handcuffs down to a small boat on the pier and marked with chalk, to be deported. It left me wondering how and why an asian man would even travel this far east, and for what reason, for it is the season of gold in far western country and I was grateful to be a wealthy Irish man in New York.
  • Journal Conclusion

    Dear journal,,
As i reflect on all that has happened since the fateful day that I left my only home in Ireland, I feel blessed that I was able to receive the fruits of my hard work, and buckets more. Fate has been with me in all my endeavors and I continue to seek a way to help Irish people succeed in America.
