Asking for and offering assistance

  • Personal story

A time when I offered help was when my brother was doing his homework. I notice that he had been on the same problem for awhile and wasn't asking for help. I asked him if he needed help and he said yeah. I asked him why he did ask for help sooner and then he said he was afraid he would feel dumb. I'm glad I asked him for assistance evause if not he would have not done his homework right.
  • Why you should offer assistance

It's important to offer assistance because if someone is afraid to ask for assistance then you should ask them so they don't feel so pressured and by themselves. A way to help people is to offer to do jobs or chores, offer to watch your younger siblings, or friend's children, volunteer, or even stopping to help.
  • Why you should ask for assistance

It's important to ask for assistance because it can help diminish your conflict but most people are too afraid to ask or just say "no thanks I got it". A way to overcome this is to look at the A.C.T. Formula. A stands for “What are you Afraid of? Create an awareness around what keeps you from asking for help” (page 14). C stands for “Let go of feeling you have to Control everything" (page 14). And T stands for “Learn to Trust yourself enough to reach out and take a chance" (page 14).
