  • 1948 War

    1948 War
    Israel decleared independance. Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq attacked Isael. Israel gained land. Egypt gained the Gaza Strip and Jordan gained the West band and east Jerusalem. Hundreds of thousands of Palastians and Jews became refugees.
  • Six Day War

    Six Day War
    Egypt Blocked Israel. Egypt, Jordan, Syria, & Iraq moved troops to Israel's borders and made threatening statements. Israel launched a preemptive strike. Isael captured the Wst Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, the Golan Heights from Syria, and the Gaza Strip and all of the Sunai Peninsula from Egypt. More Palastinians and Jews became refugees. Terrorism became more common.
  • Settlement Construction Begins

    Settlement Construction Begins
    Isreaeli aproved the building of settlement in the Sunai, Gaza Strip and the West Bank. This became an issue with Israel and Palastian Authority. Because of the peace agreement the countries must negotiate the problem.
  • Attrition Battles

    Attrition Battles
    A war between Israel and Egypt over the land and territory Israel gained from the Six Day War. Jordan succeeded in evicting the PLO from the country & the PLO the moved its base of opperation to Lenanon. This ended 1970.
  • The Yom Kippur War

    The Yom Kippur War
    Egypt and Syria attack Isreal on Yom Kippur. Using their strategies used to win the Attrition battles Israel managed to keep the land and territories they already had but did not gain any land.
  • Eqypt and Israel Sign a Peace Treaty

    Eqypt and Israel Sign a Peace Treaty
    Egypt became the first Arab country to recgonize Israel and create a peace treaty with it. Egypts presedent realized that a continuing with the war against Israel was hurting Egypts eoconomy. Israel returned all the SUnai that had been captured during the 1967 war to Egypt. The agreement made became a model for Israel's "land of peace" polocy.
  • The 1982 Lebanon War

    The 1982 Lebanon War
    The PLO station in Lebanon and increasingly attacking the communities in northern Israel so in return Israel launched an attack on the PLO. As a result of this Israel withdrew from Lebanon in 1985 until 2000, Israel maintained military presance in a section in Lebanon that prevented terrorist attacks in Israel which then led to the Second Lebanon War. This ended in September of 1982.
  • The First Intifada

    The First Intifada
    Palastainians in the Gaza Strip and in the West Bank revolted against the Israeli control of the two territories. The PLO supplyed the Palastinians with weapons and firearms which organized a big portion of the uprising. Israel used its military to fight against the Palastinians except for the fact that Israel's army was trained to fight armies and was not prepared. In the end the Palastinians lost and the Israel's won. The conflict continued until the Oslo Accords were signed in 1993.
  • The Oslo Accords

    The Oslo Accords
    The Oslo Accords were a set of agreements that began in 1993 when Israel and the PLO signed a DOP. This led to the cration of the Palestinian Authority which administrated its territory and called Israel to withdraw military presance from the Gaza strip. This left Israel to defendd itself and its people. The Oslo Accords intended to be an agreement that would be a permantent settlement with Israel to give land up for security.

    Israel and Jordan sign a Peace Treaty
    The United States helped Jordan and Israel achieve peace. In 1994 Jordan became the second country to recgonize Israel which led to an increase in business, trade, etc. between the two countries.
  • The Camp David Summit

    Bill Clinton brought Ehud Barak and Yassar Arafat to Camp David as an attempt to negotiate a final staus agreement between Israelis and Palastnians. Both Barak and Arafat both tried to negotiate on what land to withdrawl but the goal of having both states living together with peace over staus and territory was no achieved.
  • The Second Intifada

    The Second Intifada
    Israels general, Ariel Sharon, visited the Jewish Temple Mount a site of importance to Muslims and Jews.The lack of peace became a frustration out of this many Palestinians we infuriated by Sharons visit and started to riot. This is what started The Second Intifada.This conflict between the Palestinians and Israelis caused bloodshed and loss of life and suffering to both sides. This was a resulf of a failed pace progress. The event is still ongoing today.
  • The Arab Peace Initiative Proposed

    The Arab Peace Initiative Proposed
    Arab prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia presented to the Arab League a peace initiative. The proposal suggested that Israel would reciveve peace in exchange for giving up all territories caputure in the 1967 War. Israel looked into the proposal but did not accept all of its offers and demand that were to be made. Israel rejected the propsal. In 2007 Israeli leaders met with representatives of the Arab Lague to discuss this offer/ proposal given.

    Israel Begins Constructing the West Bank Barrier
    Israel decided to build a securrity barrier that divides its citizens from the West Bank and terrorist attacks. This worked as a prevention of suicide bombing in Israel but caused conflict because the wall was built near an urban area. Palestinians would have to go through security check going to and from work or to school and divided Palestinians from their land.
  • Roadmap for Peace is Proposed

    Roadmap for Peace is Proposed
    U.S,, Russia, the European Union, and United Nations created a plan of peace (The Roadmap) that was proposed in 2003. Its goal was to have an independent Palestinian state and a secure Israel. This Road map was split into 3 steps but has never proceeded passed the first. Hamas, a terrorist group, was elected in 2006 the Roadmap's project was stopped and a terrorist attack against Israel and was destroyed. Mahmoud Abbas dissolved the governtment controled by Hamas. Progress has yet to be made.
  • Disengagement From Gaza

    The physical separation of Israel and Palesrine was in a polocy continues forward by the Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon known as the "Disengagment".WIth the continuation of the West Bank barrior Sharon decided that Israel should withdraw from the Gaza Strip which was a problem for Israeli citizens becasue the ones who did live in the Gaza stip did not want to move. Terroritst attacks increase a lot since Israel withdrew from the Gaza.
  • Hamas Elected

    Ha,as members we elected to the PLO's Fatah party. People believe they won becausePalestinians have watched their governmet corrupt before. In Hamas'd charter, they call for the disruction of Israel & for killing the Jew. This charter does not accept any negotistions between Palestine and Israel prior to being elected. Many Western nationsimpose sactions to the Palestinian Authority & would be refused to be lifed to Hamas recognize Israel.
  • The 2006 Lebanon War

    The 2006 Lebanon War
    In Lebanon there is a radical Islamist organization that is commited to destroying Israel which is supported by Iran and Syria called Hezbollah. On July 11, this Hezbollah crossed the border into Israel and attacked the Israeli army, kidnapped soliders & at the same time were launching rockets. Israels response was launching rocket on to suspected Hezbollah targets. The result of this war was civilians lives, property, & Lebanon's transportation system was damaged. Hostilities ended on 8/11/06.
  • The Battle of Gaza

    Since Hamas won the election in 2006 there had been a lot of tension between Hamas and the PLO Fatah. Hamas militants attack Fatah members in the Gaza, June 2007. Mahmoud Abbas,Palestinian Authority president dissolved the Hammas goverenment in response to this. Today there are two Paestinian governments covering the Pasestinian area: Hamas over the Gaza & Palestinian Authority over the West Bank. When Hamas government was dissolved, western sanctions to the Palestinian Authority were lifted.
  • The Gaza War

    Israel attacked Hamas targets in Gaza as an attempt to stoprocket launches on Israel and to disrupt terrorist structure and weapon smuggling. Doing this, hundreds of militants were killed as well as many civilians because Hamas was located in such an urban area. Gazas building and economy also we damaged significantly. This stopped January 18, 2009.
  • Gaza Flotilla Incident

    Gaza Flotilla Incident
    After Hamas got control of Palestine, Egpyt and Israel began to not let anything in or out of Gaza. They made sure to check everything before it entered their state incase Hamas tried sneaking in any weapons that would harm them. Later, six ships tried getting into Gaza but they refused to agree on the deal that was given which was they could dock at the Israel port of Ashdod. ON one ship men from Turkey were killed. This ruined the relationship between Israel and Turkey.
  • The Arab Spring

    On December 18 in 2010 Arab states began protesting against one person having absolute power and cruel manner with government. The protesting started in Tunisia and spread throughout the Arab world. The Tunisian president left the country in January and the Egyptian president resigned as well shortly after. Still 'til this day the Arab- Israeli conflict is unclear and unresolved.
