    Israel declared independence. Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq attacked Israel.
    As a rsesult, Israel gained land as well as Eqypt gained the Gaza Strip gained the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and Jews became refugees.

    Egypt blockaded Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq moved troops to Israel's borderds and made threatening statements. Israel launched a preemptive strike,
    As a result, Israel captured the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, the Golan Heights from Syria, and the Gaza Strip and all of the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt. More Palestinians and Jews became refugess. Terrorism became more common.

    In the war of 1967, Israel gained land. Israel stated that there was a negotiation for returning back the land in reutrn for peace and recognition for its right to exist, However, Egypt, Jordan, and Syria felt that the offers were not fair.
    To fight back, Eqypt led small attacks that included airplane hijacks and terrorist attacks. Many Israeli people were lost and the PLO moved its bases of operatins to Lebanon.

    In Siniai Gaza and the West Bank, settlments are put at the boarders. These settlements will be used to protect civilians from attacks.
    This caused many people say that the land is used for the future Palestinian states and that it was also used for travel in Palestine and the West Bank. With the new construction the people think that it will be harder to do those things.

    Egypt and Syria attacked Israel on Yom Kippur. Arab military succesfully wins the attack, but the Israeli, as adivised by the United States, are able to push back shortly after.
    That year, Israeli leaders reinforced the importance of buffer zones as a result of the war. Buffer zones helped against surprise attacks.

    Egypt and Israel Sign a Peace Agreement
    The Peace Agreement was the result of the efforts from the United States. Eqypt was the first Arab country to recognize Israel and enter a peace treaty.
    This resulted in the Egypt president realized the harm that was done to the Egyptain people. Israel returened all Sinai that had been captured in the The 1967 War to Egypt. THe agreement became a model for Israel's "land for peace" policy.

    PLO units in Lebanon constintley attacked communties in Israel. After a while Israel launched an attack on the PLO stationed in Lebanon. Israeli troops advanced so far that they expelled the PLO leadership from Lebanon to Tunisia.
    As a result, Israel was drawn into the Lebanese civil war. However, Israel soon withdrew from Lebanon. Though they maintained a strong military presence in southern Lebanon, renewed terrorist attacks from Lebanon led to the Second Lebanon War.
  • The First Intifada

    Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and West Bank rose together to take contorl back from Israel. The PLO not only supplied but, heped organize the attacks. Suicide attacks began to occur during this time.
    The Israeli army tried to attack back but the Palestinian attacks were too powerful. The Oslo Accords were signed in 1993 bringing the conflct to an end.

    The Oslo Accords
    Israel and the PLO signed a Declaration of Principles which were a set of agreements. The agreements called for Israel to withdraw its military presence from the Gaza Strip. It also called for exchanged Letters of Mutual Recognition between Israel and the PLO.
    The signed documents resulted in the PLO formally recognized Israel for the first time, as well as Israel formally recognizing the PLO. However both sides accuse each other of not fufilling their obligations.

    Similar to the treaty signed between Egyot and Israel, The United States helped Jordan and Israel achieved the same peace. Jordan then became the second Arab country to formally recognize Israel.
    Since the agreement was signed the cooperation between the two noations have increased.

    Bill Clinton brought Israeli and Paletinian Presidents to negotiate peace. Dennis Ross, a Middle East envoy, brought up the failiure at the talks to Arafat's refusal to compromise. Barak reported to withdraw from vast majority of the West Bank to make Palestine an free state.
    As a result, Arafat felt that the deal was not good enough and refused. There was no further improvement and the conflict remains unresolved.

    Israeli General went to a Jewish Temple to make peace. The people thought that the peace makking was lacking progress and they believed that it was a pretext for violence
    As a result many people began to riot as well as participate in terrorist attacks which went both ways. Hundreds of civilians were killed during the attacks.

    The crowned prince of Arab proposed a peace plan. This plan offered Israel peace in return for Israeli withdraw from territories captured in battles of 1967. The plan was proposed again in 2007.
    Israeli thought that the proposal was not enough and did not want to give up their territories. The first time the officials discussed the proposal was in 2007.

    Israel built a security wall to seperate innocent civilians from terrorist groups in the West Bank. This was similar t the 1967 Settlement Construcion.
    Many people argue that it interfered traveling, research, etc. The people were also upset because in order to pass the boarder, it took a very long time to pass through the security check.
  • The Roadmap for Peace is Proposed

    The Roadmap for Peace is Proposed
    A plan for peace was proposed by: United States, Russia, the European Union, and the Untied Nations. The plan involves reciprical steps from the Israeli and Palistainians. The end result of the peace plan was secure Israel and create Palestine to be independent.
    The plan was cut into three pieces, however, it never progressed passed the first stage. Following the election of Hamas, the plan halted. When the Palestinian president dissolved the government, negotiations were able to start again.

    The Prime Minister of Israel tried to physically seperate Israel from Palestinian territories. As well as building the West Bank barrier, the Prime Minister announced that Israel would be withdrawing from the Gaza Strip.
    As a result many people were mad because Israelis who lived in other territories did not want to move. There was no negoitiation of the plan however, the number of rockets fired by terrorists into Israel has increased.
  • Hamas is Elected

    As a result of the election, the majority of the Hamas members were elected for the Palestinian Authority's legislature over the PLO's Fatah party. The old governemtn was elected out because the people of Palestine saw the other government was corrupt.
    The new government ordered that Israel be destructed and Jewish people killed. Due to these actions other Western nations suspened aid to the Palestinian Authority.

    A radical Islamist prganization crossed the Lebanon-Israel border and attacked an Israeli army killing eight soldiers and kidnapping two more who were murdered after. At the same time of the attack, the organization launched attacks on many towns.
    Israel then launched its own rocket attack on the Hezbollah military. Many civilian lives were lost due to the Hexbollah human sheild strategy of hiding their weapons. The war ended when the UN Cease Fire Resolution pass

    The great tension between the Hamas and PLO Fatah governement was created by the election favoring Hamas. Hamas militaries attacked Fatah members throughout Gaza.
    The Palestininian Authority president dissolved the Hamas government. In present day Hamas controls Gaza and the Palestinian Authority controls the West Bank.

    In attempt to stop rocket attacks, disrupt terrorist infastructure and weapon smuggling in southern Israel, Israel attacked Hamas targets in Gaza.
    Hundred of militants were killed as well as many civilians. Civilians were killed because Hamas was based in urban areas.

    When six ships tried to break the blockade of the Gaza Strip created by Israel and Egypt but were stoped because they were not allowed to enter the Gaza Strip. However they could drop off their cargo to be inspected. When the ships refused, Israeli cmmandos boarded and fights broke out between the ships.
    The ship's cargo was permitted after inspection. When a demanded apology from Turkey was refused, the countries were no longer allies.

    Citizens began to protest in Arab states against autocratic and oppressive governments. The protests spread to Tunsia and across the Arab world.
    On January 14, 2011, the Tunisian president left the country as well as the Egyptain President in February 11. There has many changes in Arab nation and peace is not yet clear.
