    Description:
    Egypt Blockaded Israel. Egypt, Jordan, Syria & Iraq moved troops to Irael's borders and made threatening statements. Israel launched preemptive strike.
    Outcome:
    Israel captured the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, the Golan Heights from Syria, and the Gaza Strip and all of the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt.     Egypt became the first Arab country to recognize Israel. Israel gave back some of Egypt's land and removed Jewish families from the land.

    PLO units in southern Lebanon repeatedly attack Israel's borders. On June 6, Israel invades Lebanon and occupies them until 1985, expelling the the PLO units to Tunisia.     A diplomatic conference held in Oslo, Norway regarding Arab-Israeli confilict in Palestine. The Palestinian Authority (PA) was created to form a government in Palestine.     The Camp David Summit
    The Camp David Summit was a secret negotiation attemp set up by United States President Bill Clinton between Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and the PA minister Yasser Arafat. Barak was willing to compromise, but Arafat was noted for being stubbirn and peace talks ceased by the 25th of July.

  • The Second Intifada

    The Second Intifada
    The fighting began on September 28th when Israeli politician Ariel Sharon and 1,000 Israeli police officers went to Temple Mount, a sacred Islamic and Jewish site. Palestinians saw this provokation and violence ensued. Fighting continued until 2005 when Sharon and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas agreed to make peace.

    In 2002 Saudi Arabia suggested a peace plan where Israel gets peace in exchange for withdrawing from land occupied since 1967, giving Palestine East Jerusalem, and providing a solution for refugees.     Israel begins construction of a barrier between Israel and the West Bank for security purposes. Opponents of this say that it separates Palestinians and makes it hard for them to travel. As of now, the wall still stands but Israel can remove it when true peace occurs.

    Roadmap for Peace Proposed
    A Peace plan by the USA, EU, UN, and Russia for a secure Israel and independent Palestine side-by-side. In peace. The plan has three phases, but has never progressed past the 1st. Progress was halted when Hamas was elected in 2006. Since then there has been no signifacant progress and both are still in conflict.

    Israel Disengages from Gaza
    Israel decided to withdraw from Gaza after having occupied it for 38 years. This idea was met negativity from many Israelis who lived in the area, and they had to be forcibly evicted from their settlements. Since Gaza has been de-occupied, the amount of rockets launched towards Israel from the region has significantly increased.

    Hamas won an election in the Palestinian legislature compared to the PLO's Fatah Party. Hamas is anti-Israel and calls for its destruction, and is respnsible for hundreds of terrorist attacks. Foreign aid was suspended to the PA until Hamas was out of power, though Hamas still holds power in the Gaza Strip.
