    Israel declared independence. Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq declared war Israel gained land. Egypt gained the Gaza Strip and Jordan gained the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and Jews became refugees.
  • Six Day War

    Egypt blockaded Israel. Egyptm Jordan, Syria and Irag moved troops to Israel's borders and made threatening statements. Israel launched a preemptive strike. Israel captured the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, and the Golan Heights from Syrai and the Gaza Strip and all of the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt. More Palestinians and Jews became refugees Terrorism became more common.

The West Bank settlers started at 3000 population but has grown into over 300,000. The settlements have caused major conflict because people who lived in the area before believe that the area is their's. This is still a major part of the conflict today.

    Egypt entered a peace treaty with Israel, becoming the first Arab country to recognize Israel as a country. They did this because the president at the time stated that the wars was harming the Egyption economy and the well being of his people. Israel returned Sinai that it had captured and removed Jewish families from the land. This became a model for Israel's "land for peace" policy.

    The PLO increased attacked communities in northern Israel. Israel attacked PLO militants in Lebanon. The attack drew Israel in the Lebanese Civil War. Israel pulled out of Lebanon in 1985. Israel maintained a military presence there until 2000.

    Hezbollah, a radical Islamist organization committed to destroying Israel, attacks Israel. Israel fights back. Lot of lives were lost, including many civilian lives.

    There had been lots of conflict between Hamas and the PLO. Hamas attacked the PLO. The Palestinian Authority president dissolved the Hamas Government.
    Hamas controls Gaza and the Palestinian Authority controls the West Bank. Western sanctions to the Palestinian Authority were lifted after the Hamas government was dissolved.

    Israel attacked Hamas targets to stop them. They launched many rockets and disrupted the terrorist infrastructure. There was many civilian causalities, and Gaza's buildings and economy was damaged.
