  • Louis Calls the Estates-General

    On May 5th, 1789, King Louis XVI has proposed solutions to his government's financial problems, the Estates-General sat for several weeks in May and June 1789 but came to an impasse as the three estates clashed over their respective powers. It marked an end to absolutism.
  • Robespirre Comes to Power

    On May 6, 1789, Robespierre was elected a deputy of the Estates-General. He was a lawyer and defended the poorest French citizen (the Third estate) during the Estates General meeting in May 1789. He promoted a society where all the men would be considered as equal, whatever their social origin is.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    The Tennis Court Oath was on June 20, 1789. It was a result of the growing discontent of the Third Estate in France in the face of King Louis XVI's desire to hold onto the country's history of absolute government. It is the beginning of the French Revolution and was the moment the majority of the population of France began to take control of the country.
  • Storming of the Bastille

    On July 14, 1789, a group of enraged demonstrators attacked the Bastille, a prison located in Paris, France. It led to the abolition of monarchy and the founding of the French Republic.
  • Declaration of the Rights of Man

    It is approved by the National Assembly of France on August 26, 1789. The key ideas were liberty and equality. It establsihed the importance of individualism within French society, The Declaration became the founding document of modern France.
  • Walk to Versailles

    On October 5, 1789, groups of angry women had gotten together and made a big crowd in the central marketplace of Paris then march to Versailles. The event's main purpose was to obtain bread and force the price of bread down to where it had been. It is the turning point of the Revolution that the Third Estate was finally reckoned with.
  • Louis's Trial

    On December 10, 1792, the French people accuse Louis of having committed a multitude of crimes. He established his tyranny by destroying the country's liberty. When Louis died, the absolute monarchy in France ends.
  • Robespierre Killed

    On July 28, 1794, Robespierre was killed. Robespierre was executed, without a trial, in the guillotine. He get killed because he went too far with his revolutionary ideas and killed thousands of people, sending them to the guillotine, just because they still believed in the monarchial system, which he wanted to get rid of. His death put the Reign of Terror and the French Revolution to an end.
