    Louis calls the estates-general
    in a desperate need for money Louis calls for the estates-general. he tried to tax the nobles. this was the first meeting in 175 years. the 3 esates meet seperatley and each estate had one vote but the first and second estate could always ou vote the third estate. After this the 3rd estate broke off and formed the national assembly to unite aganist the government.

    3rd estate breaks off from the 1st and 2nd when the 3rd estate gets locked out of their meeting room. they meet in a tennis court and pledge to stay there until they had written a new consitution for France. they became tired of being outvoted so they created the national assembly and found their voice and rights through this.

    mob storms to to release prisoners. symbol of the beginning of the revolution. killed guards by stabbing them to death. Parisians armed themselves because the people thought the king would use force to regain power. the building of Bastille was looted and destroyed more used for storage of weapons than to hold prisoners.

    Rumors and panic spread throughout France. Peasants revolted aganist the nobles and women rioted over the price of bread. series of peasant strikes and revolts. looted and attacked nobles. more economical than political problem. broke into the versailles palace and killed guards.

    man and citizens had the right to liberty, property and security. said men are born free and have equal rights. used ideas of enlightenment from locke and philosophes. gave the men the rights they wanted and deserved but still didnt include women.
  • March to Versailles

    March to Versailles
    6,000 women marched to the versailles palace. women were rioting the rising price of bread. they were enraged that the king and queen lived in extravagance and the people were so poor. they forced Louis xvi and marie antoinette to return back to paris. the rioters stripped the king and queen of their authority.
  • Louis's trial

    Louis's trial
    Louis was tried for treason by Robespierre. the National convention found he was guilty. Louis punishment was execution and he was beheaded. this marked the end of weak leadership and absolute monarchy. Also France was declared a republic.
  • Robespierre killed

    Robespierre killed
    overthrown and arrested by the national convention. Robespierre was sentenced to the guillotine. after his death marked the end of the great fear.
