  • The way to Freedom

    The way to Freedom
Even though I loved my homeland of Ireland, the famine has caused me to immagrate to America. The crops(mainly potatos) have gone bad and many people are atarving and dying in Ireland. America has lots of land and promising job oportunities. I hope to move to the west to start a farm and a new life.
  • Starting in America

    Starting in America
Although America is nice, now that I moved here I am going to need a place to stay. As I first get to America I realize I have no were to go. Luckily I find some very distant cousins, they agree to let me stay with them until I am able to go to the west. They used to own lots of land but since urbanization they have had to sell bits and pieces to people starting buisnesses. The only catch is that I have to pay a small portion of rent each month becuase the owner of the house lost his job.
  • Starting a Job

    Starting a Job
Not only do I have to live in a small house but they are asking me to pay rent! The owner lost his job to a younger American worker. Since I have no money I now have to work as a Washerwoman, it was the only job that I could find that allowed Irish women. I only get payed 10 cents a day! It will take a lot longer than I thought to get to the west and own a farm.
  • On the Streets

    On the Streets
As soon as I got settled in and got in a rutine , I lost my job and was kicked out of my home. One day at work I was a minute late to my station after lunch and my sleesy boss fired me. I could no longer pay rent and the family I was living with kicked me out. It is just days before Christmas and I have no where to go. I tryed to get another job but everyone has caught on to the new Industrialization in America and all the jobs are taken up and I am Irish, they won't hire me.
  • Troubles in the West

    Troubles in the West
Though I have gone through lots in the past years, times are still troubling as I have to live in an abandoned old barn. My dreams of a great life in America are being dwiddled away as I see many successfull Ranchers that I came with living in the west. Why can't I be successful like them? I have little possesions and I will have to find some source of income to be able to get supplies for the Great Land Race.
  • Losing My Ride

    Losing My Ride
After many years of hard work and log days in the west I have finally raised enough money to buy a horse and supplies for the Greadt Land Race in September.I had been working so hard payed for a younge horse, it nearly cost me 200 dollars. I left it tied up to go into a shop and while I was inside I lost my horse.
  • In the Race

    In the Race
Even after having my horse stolen, I am ready for the Great Land Race, and becuase of the homestead act we get FREE land. Word is that there are about 42,000 parcels of land available, only problem is that there are over 100,000 people including me aiming to get a parcel of this land. Luckily I bought a quick horse that I lead to the perfect piece of land. THe land had flat, rockless fields with just enough trees to build a farm.
