Sundiata had a grandnephew whose named was Mansa Musa was a religious Muslim and he gained power and became ruler of Mali.

Mansa Musa like many other muslims took the trip to Mecca. He gave gifts.brought his slaves and brought his gold to show his wealth. Which overall gained him more popularity.

Mansa Musa passed away in this year. Although he fortunately left leaving his empire in good shape. For example the empire was governed by law with a good economy.

Although Mali was left strong they were soon conquered by Sunni Ali the Muslim leader of the new empire Songhai which soon became the most powerful West African Empire.

Askia Muhammad was Songhai's most brilliant leader infact he enforced learning and trading. In addition he boosted the Songhai's army by making neighboring communities to provide excess soldiers.

To build his empire Askia Muhammad made the pilgrimage to Mecca which he then returned with doctors, architects, scientists and banks, schools, mosques and courts were built. This made the Songhai Empire increase in power and grow.

Songhai may have been powerful but not powerful enough. Forces of Morocco and Spain destroyed the final African Empire.
