Adventures to Education

  • First Grade

Upon entering first grade, I met a teacher who would influence my view on education for the rest of my career as a student, and eventually, a teacher. Mrs. Goffin inspired me to put my best efforts forward in the classroom. Because of her compassion for her job and her students, I became immersed in the idea of becoming an educator. This is where my dream began...

    Rivier College:
While completing pre-practicum hours at a inner-city elementary school, I was given the task of teaching one student how to read. The child was below grade level and needed one-on-one reading instruction. Everyday, I went into the little boy's classroom and worked with him on the necessary tools of reading. The joy on his face when he read he first book was more than enough reassurance that I had picked the right field to work in. He is my own personal "Little Engine That Could."

    Graduation Day
After a series of pre-practicums & student teaching, sleepless nights and piles of assignments, I finally reached the end of my undergraduate studies. It was bitter sweet; I had made some wonderful contacts and spent most of my days surrounded by people who shared my passion for teaching. However, I had reached a milestone that gave me a license to teach elementary and general special education. I was offically certified to chase after my dream.

I accepted my first job as a preschool teacher in a lovely community. This is where I was first introduced to the idea of an immergent curriculum. During my time in the preschool, I have learned from mentor teachers and students in a variety of ways.
