    Steam Engine
    A man called Thomas Newcomen invented the steam engine to pump wtaer out of mines. It wasn't effective because it could only be used for that purpose. In 1756 James Watt improved it by addding rotary motion. This supplied more horsepower to do more things lie make it into a boat or a locomotive. Importance: By James Watt imporving the steam engine, it allowed for transportation to flourish like trains to transport people faster and steam boats for shipping goods up and down canals.

    The french revolution was an overtakingof the government by the people due to the people were starving and the king was not doing anything about it. the king Was King Louis XVI and his mistress Marie Antoinette. Importancy: This revolution was important because it change how the France was run. It gave power to the people not just the king and queen.

    Haitian Revolution
    The Haitian Revolution was a slave revolt that ended in Haiti being an independent country. It was a french colony with sugar cane as its major crop. in 1791 the slaves revolted with Toussaint L'Ouverture as there leader. In 1802, Napoleon sent and army to recapture Haiti. They couldn't win. Hiaiti won its independence in 1804. Importance: This showed the world that slaves greatly outnumber the populstion and they can overpower thier rulers.

    Independence of Mexico
    The Mexican independence was an armed revolt against Spanish colonial authorities. This later turned in to a dream for independence from Spain. Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a priest, rang the church bell to gather the townspeople. He called for the people of Mexico to rise up against the Spanish Crown, thus initiating Mexico's War of Independence. Important: It set the tone for Mexico to flourish

    The Congress of Vienna was a conference that was called to remake Europe after the downfall of Napoleon. THe main goal was to create a balance of power that would keep peace.
    The powers of Russia, Prussia, Austria, amd the UK were primary contributers to the settlement. Importantcy: It redrew Europe's map, restoring monarchy to the territories Napoleon captured, providing a balance of powers in the Congress system

    the opium war was the most humiliting loss China ever suffered. In the 1830's the English had become a major drug-trafficking organization. They grew opium and India and shipped tons of it to China to trade for chinese goods and tea. In 1836, the imperila government made opium illegial and began to shut down opium dens. Important: It stopped a major source of revenue fro the British.

    In 1853 a American Commodore Matthew Perry enters Tokyo bay. He delclares that the U.S. demnads trade rights. The Japanese had no choice because they couldn't fight american technology. This formed the Treaty of Kanagawa. some saw thsi as a sign of weakness for the Shogun. Importance: the importance of Matt Perry going to Japan was that he opened trade between Japan and America.

    The Sepoy Mutiny was an uprising by the Indian people called the sepoy who were tranide by the British as soldiers. They heard that thier rifles were greased with lard and beef fat. This upset them because the cow is sacred to Hindus. the mutiny was spontaneous but they managed to arganize and take the cities of Delhi and Kanpur. Important: The beginning of the Indian independence movement.

    The unification of Germany happend over time. it started with Prussia. Prussia was the leading German state ruled by Hohenzollern since 1614. under the Zollverein Prussia organizes German states economically, removed tariffs, made a standard money system. In 1862 a man named Otto von Bismark, the Prussian Prime Minister, made a speech with a goal to unite German states under Prussian Leadership.

    Russia and Japan both wanted Korea and Manchuria. They then broke out into war and Russia lost severely losing many men and they lost batlles on land and sea. it ended in a treaty called the Treaty of Portsmouth. It stated that Japan and Russia were to draw forces out of Manchuria and give its rule back to China. Importantcy: Battle of Tsushima introduced the importancy of battleships in warfare.

    The zulu uprising was a revolt against British rule and taxation in South Africa. It was led by Bambatha KaMancinza. it started when white employers couldnt find black farm workers, so they introduced a £1 poll tax on the people. This outraged the zulu people and they revolted. Important: Showed that the zulu people dindt like to be taken advantage of.
