My road to education

  • Graduate from High School

I graduated from high school and married my high school sweetheart one year later. I worked and started going to college full-time.
  • Graduated from College University of West Florida

Graduated with a B.A. in mathematics
  • First Child is Born

My first son, Michael, was born. Becoming a mother changed my life forever and has always framed my role as a teacher. My relationship with my students as a teacher should be one that I would want for my own children in school.
  • Second Child is Born

My second son, Tony, was born. I was fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom while both of my boys were small and could not have loved it more!
  • Lived in Naples, Italy

Moved to Naples, Italy for three years with my Navy husband and my two boys ages 3 mos. and 15 mos old. Realized that being a mother was truly the best job in the world!
  • Insurance Agent Job

I worked as an insurance agent for three years at USAA. It was a great experience to work in the corporate world and made me recognize that it was not where I wanted my life to be heading.
  • Son diagnosed with autism

My youngest son, Tony, was diagnosed with autism. He did not talk until he was almost four years old. At first I was devastated, but now realize that having a child with a disability has blessed my life is so many ways and made my perspective on life and my role as a teacher, much different than it would have been otherwise. Tony has developed in me a much deeper meaning of unconditional love.
  • Math Teacher at Princess Anne High School

Hired by Pat Griffin as a math teacher at Princess Anne High School.
  • Algebra 1 Curriculum Writing Committee

Serving on the curriculum writing committee for Algebra 1 helped to mold my love for curriculum and mathematics instruction. I learned so much from collaborating with other teachers.
  • Mathematics Instructional Specialist

I applied for this position over the summer of 2007, but due to a hiring freeze, was not hired until January. This was a very difficult decision, since I had to leave my classes midway through the year. I taught and worked my new job until the end of the first semester to make the transition easier for the students. I love my job now, but it was not easy at first.
  • Graduated from George Washington University

Graduated with a Masters in Educational Leadership from GWU.
