Everything started out with my birth. The next 12 years of my life were my childhood. At first, i only wanted to survive. After my 6th birthday, i learned how to interact with people, i started to compare and to share, but I still was free of burdens. Sometimes I wish I could go back!!!
  • Prejudice - South Africa

    Prejudice - South Africa
In South Africa, the apartheid regime had many prejudices against black people. The stereotype (every black person is bad and not worthy to be treaten well) turned into harsh discrimination and racism. All these prejudices white people had made living for black people in South Africa a cruel and unworthy life. In 1994, with the help of Nelson Mandela and the ANC, the first democratic elections took place, a symbol for the overcome of the prejudices.
  • Taboo - Nazis

    Taboo - Nazis
After World War 2, Germans were not allowed to be Nazis anymore. In our law, we have a paragraph that says that nobody is allowed to pracitse the Nazi's values and morals. It is a great taboo in our culture because we are not allowed to do it and can get punished.
  • Social Control Theory - My sister

Social Control Theory - My sister
When I was little, I did not like how my parents raised me. Sometimes I was thinking of running away or doing something bad. On August 22, 1996, my little sister Maren was born. Ever since then, I saw how important my family is and how attached I am. I loved to entertain my sister, I loved going to church and help people there. I learned to be happy and to appreciate the things and people i had around me. I think, this helped me a lot to not be deviant or criminal.

  • Agents of Socialization - School

    Agents of Socialization - School
My first day of school! I learned how to interact with other students and teachers. I was taught how to respect authorities. I put effort in my work and studied to achieve my goals. All of that shows that school is a social agent teaching people living and acting with other people.
  • Values - My family's values

    Values - My family's values
In July 1999, my family went on vacation to Sardinia, Italy. We spent three weeks at the beach of this beautiful island in the Mediterranean Sea. Most of the time, we enjoyed hanging out as a family. We did trips, played games, went for a walk, played in the water. My family values the time we are having together. Without that, I don't think my family could exist.
  • Factors affecting Social Inequality - Education

Factors affecting Social Inequality - Education
In this year, I decided to go to my next school. I need the degree I get from this school to be able to go to university in Germany. I need education to get a good job. Students who did not have the chance to go to the higher schools will have trouble because they do not have the same chances as I do.
  • Social Conformity - Exchange student Liz

Social Conformity - Exchange student Liz
That year, my family decided to host an exchange form New York. Liz had a difficult time at the beginning, but after a while she learned to accept our patterns, our behaviors, our attitudes, all our values and started to act like we do. It was great to see this conformation. Although she took over our values and beliefs, she still kept her American personality. Her example helped me a lot when I became an exchange student.
  • Agrarian - My Grandpa

    Agrarian - My Grandpa
At this day, my Grandpa sold his farm to his son, my uncle. My Grandpa has always been an agrarian. He always focused on farmlife and that is his passion. He loves his work probably more than any other man. He still lives there, it just doesnt belong to him anymore, but to his son.
  • Characterisitics affecting Social Inequality - Jerusalem

Characterisitics affecting Social Inequality - Jerusalem
Jerusalem, the hot spot for religion. Muslims, Jews, and Christians honor this city. The diversity of religions caused many problems, because of the social inequalitiy. The Muslims think the Jews are all wrong and are inferior. The Jews, in contrary, say that their religion is right and Muslims are bad. This issue has been going on since the foundation of Israel in 1948, and will never stop.
  • Patriotism - National Anthem

    Patriotism - National Anthem
On that day, Germany played against Italy in the semifinals of the soccer worldcup in 2006. Probably all of Germany watched. It was the highest TV rate of watching that game. Usually, you can't really see our national flag or other German things. But during this game, every house had a German flag. All of us were so excited to play in the semifinals. We united and cheered for our team. I was proud if my country. This day, I would say, is when all of Germany felt patriotism.

  • Culture - Bulgaria

    Culture - Bulgaria
That summer, my youthgroup decided to make a missions trip to Bulgaria for 2 weeks. Living there for so long opened my eyes. The Bulgarian culture has many different values than Germany does. Their appreciation of water (we didnt have water for 9 days!!!) or their actions to foreigners was completely different. They share everything they have, they learn the job their family did forever, they are nice to everybody. All that showed me the differences between my culture and their culture.

  • Personality - Search for Personality

    Personality - Search for Personality
When I left Germany to come to the US, I mostly left because I wanted to find out who I really am. I wanted to figure out what my personality looked like, what characteristics, attitudes, what values and behaviors I have, how I solve problems. I arrived here, i didn't know anybody, and I could be myself. I was able to find out who i am because it didn't matter since nobody knew me. I am thankful for the opportunity I had to come here and the chance to learn so many new things!
