War of 1812

  • Tecumseh

    A Shawnee Chief who would lead his fellow Native Americans to fight against American settlers who tried to move west during the late 1700s and early 1800s. He would lose the Battle of Fallen Timbers forcing him to sign the Treaty of Greenville. Despite the treaty he still wanted back their people's land took by the Americans causing many more battles. The date is when he was born.
  • Washington’s Proclamation of Neutrality

    In response to the ongoing war in Europe, George Washington would declare neutrality. Along side this he would state that if any Americans were to violate this proclamation they will not be protected by the federal government. This outraged many Americans especially the Democratic-Republicans who thought they should fight alongside France after their help in the American Revolution.

    Impressment of Sailors

    Before the war the British would seize our trade ships like France, but unlike the French they would kidnap our sailors and hold them hostage. This would continue until the declare of the war.
  • Jay's Treaty

    With tensions being high between the two due to violations of the Treaty of Paris in 1763, Great Britain would seize American trade ships. This was really bad in Washington's opinion so he would command John Jay to sail to London to form a new treaty with the British that would finally be signed off by both countries in June 24, 1795.
  • Washington’s Farewell Address

    Announcing that he does not wish to run for a third term in office, Washington would say his farewells. In this document he would state that he dislikes political parties and that it would be a bad idea to hold long term alliances.
  • Chesapeake-Leopard Affair

    As the US vessel the Chesapeake set sail it made a unwelcomed invite for the British ship know as the HMS Leopard. The British crew would raid the Chesapeake looking for deserted British crew men including Jenkin Ratford. This caused debates in the American government about going to war with great Britian.
  • Embargo Act 1807

    The Embargo Act was passed because of their ships being seized by both England and France. This act would close all American exports to Europe and put a limit on British imports. This act greatly affected American citizens. It greatly hurting the poor, who had everything they owned stripped from them.

    War Hawks

    A group formed by young western and southern Americans that were elected into congress in 1810. Two important leaders from them are Henry Clay and John C. Calhoun. Since the British encouraged Native Americans to attack Northwesterners in America, which made the War Hawks to encourage war against England. Another reason was so they could gain Florida to America from Spain who was England's ally.
  • War of 1812 Begins

    On this date due to several conflicts with Great Britain, President Madison would declare war(despite the dislike of the Federalist party). This war would then last for almost 3 whole years.
  • Tecumseh Death

    After being ambushed by William H. Harrison's group he was killed. He was a strong leader of the Native Americans, but without him there to lead them, many had to move to Indian Reverses in American ending their contributions in the War of 1812.

    Hartford Convention

    Federalists from Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont would meet in secret at Hartford, Connecticut to talk about their ill feelings towards President James Maddison. Unaware of the current outside events they would be informed of Americas win and the Treaty of Ghent that was being ratified. This meeting because of its unpopularity would lead to the downfall of the Federalist Party in America.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    On this day the British would create the Treaty of Ghent declaring Peace with America. The treaty would take forever to get from England to America and even longer thorough the Senate due to their dislike of the British.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    The British now able to focus on the War of 1812 because of Napoleon's defeat in 1814, they would focus their attacks on Eastern American trade attacking the eastern coasts. With Major General Andrew Jackson leading the American's to battle against the invading British in New Orleans, fighting the final and bloody battle. It would end with America's win against Great Britain. This battle happens due to lack of the knowledge of the Treaty of Ghent.
