At President james Madison's request congress declared war on Great Britain. At this time America only had about 7,000 poorly trained men to go fight in this war.
-
In this time Britain and the United states were fighting over Michigan territory seeing as it was owned by the Native Americans. They both wanted it because the Great Lakes offered great ways for transportation of goods and people.
British and American troops actually met on Mackinac island to try and gain control of the island and they broke out into battle, eventually though Britain did gain control and it became British turf. -
On this day over 1,000 American troops crossed the border into Upper Canada. Some of the troops circled the British Artillery and pushed the British from the top. During this attack/ invasion General Isaac Brock was killed, he was one of the most well respected generals in the British military leaders.
-
This was a particularly bloody battle, one January 22 of 1813 American Troops under Commander James Winchester were invaded by the British Army under Commander Henry Procter. Winchester ended up surrendering, but afterwards the British allied Native Americans massacred the wounded American soldiers. This left a deep scar in the surviving American troops, they recalled the event by saying "Remember the Raisin".

Britain tried to gain control of Fort Meigs but ultimately failed, this battle/ attempted siege had many casualties for the british. Luckily though America kept control of Fort Meigs and the British had to raise the Siege.
-
This battle was lead by James Brown on the America side and on the British side their leading Commander was George Prevost. America had over a 1,000 men in the field but Britain only had about 870 troops in the field and yet still managed to have less casualties.

This battle is also known as the Battle of Moraviantown, this battle was won by the lucky U.S. American troops were up against British and Indian soldiers. The town of Moravian did not escape unscathed though, the town of Christian Indians was pretty much destroyed.

America had had control over Fort Niagra since May 1813, but was recaptured by british troops on December 18-19 in 1813. The British attacked when the Americans were weakened by the cold, a rather vile way of winning if you ask me.
-
This battle had no true winner but the casualties were high. Britain got the short end of the stick when it came to casualties, they came out of the battle with 878 casualties. 84 people were killed, 559 were wounded, and 224 were missing and captured. The United states had 853 casualties, 174 people died, 572 were injured, and 107 were missing and captured.

The British won this battle and there were surprisingly little casualties. In total there were only about 450 casualties, 200 for America and 250 for Britain. But with this battle the war of 1812 had been getting quit costly, and for many, very very frustrating.
-
As revenge for the Sacking of York the British went to D.C., they piled up furniture and chairs in both the house and the senate, they scattered rocket powder on the pile and set fire to it. Within minutes the whole place was on fire. The British then ransacked the place stealing old treasuries and paintings.
-
Thus battle was won by the Americans and was lead by American Commander George Armistead. Although this battle brought great happiness to Americans we did have 4 people killed which is not that many compared to other wars but compared to Britain's number of deaths, which is zero, its more than enough. The fall of Fort McHenry was an important part to them winning the war so this loss was especially great for the Americans.
-
This treaty was signed so that the war of 1812 would officially be ended. Although the news of this treaty didn't reach the other side of the pond until 2 months after it was signed so people had heard about it at the same time they were hearing about the battle of new orleans.

The british lost a good amount of ground on this battle. It also wasnt really supposed to happen because of the Treaty of Ghent but it did and the british payed,.
