    why the war started

    The reason that the war started is because the British set up a sea blockade of ships in the Atlantic so that no American merchant ships can trade with France. The war between the British and the French were still fighting a bitter war in Europe. So they British set up a sea blockade so that the Americans could not trade with the French and help them defeat the British. When the British stopped the American merchant ships they were also looking for any British deserters and American sailors.

    A mere matter of marching

    When the Americans declared war on the British the Americans thought that it would just be a mere matter of marching. On June first General Hull set out with an army of 2000 men and went to Fort Detroit and then went out to invade Canada from there. Before General Hull got there with his army he didn't know that the British, Canadians, and the Natives surrounded the fort. The Americans then surrendered because they were feared of a massacre from the hands of the Natives.
