    The American Navy built ships after the XYZ Affair, in preparation for war with France. The French demanded bribes from the United States. The Unites States prepared for war with France by building a navy, the war never happened. However, this let the Americans be prepared for war with Britain in the War of 1812.

    General William Hull marched governor of the Michigan Territory marched with 2,200 men against Canadian positions. Then later retreating due to communications being assaulted by Indians.

    Two months after the United States declared war, the USS "Constitution" outmaneuvered the "Guirriére" (a French vessel that was captured by the English). In October, the USS "United States" caught the "Macedonian" and forced the ship to surrender. In December, the USS "Constitution" (now under a different captain), wrecked the British Frigate "Java". However, these victories had little outcome on the war, the Royal Navy was much more powerful, immobilizing the Americans.

    The Battle of Lake Erie
    In order to invade Canada, the United States needed to defeat the British fleet in Lake Eire. Captain Oliver Hazard Perry was put in charge of building a fleet strong enough to challenge the strength of the British Fleet. Captain Perry Succeeds but with 85 out of 103 men on the flagship were killed.

    The Hartford Convention was a group of Federalists that meet in the winter through 1814 - 1815. They were opposed to the war. They also talked about when and how to revise the constitution. In others' eyes, the were considered traitors.

    This was accomplished by British devising a plan to march 11,000 men from Montréal. Another smaller army was sent to make a distraction at Chesapeake Bay area. Then one last army was sent to attack New Orleans and take the West.

    As a prisoner aboard a British vessel, Francis Scott Key watched as Fort McHenry was being bombarded by the British Fleet. He watched as rockets going of in the night, and in the morning that the Flag was still waving above the fort. He wrote the words on an old letter that he found in his pocket.

    The peace treaty between England and the United States was signed in Ghent, Belgium. Ending the War of 1812 in 1814
  • The Battle of New Orleans

    The Battle of New Orleans
    After a quick skirmish on December 23, Jackson led his American troops to a defensive position, January 8, 1815, British General Pakenham led his troops in an assault. Jackson had his troops form three ranks with the first rank fire, go on their knee, second fire then go on their knee, and finally the third rank fire and go on their knee, while the first rank stood up again and fire, continually.
