  • Thomas Jefferson is reelected

    Thomas Jefferson is reelected during a peacetime in the U.S. But a war between Britain and France thretans American trade.
  • The Embargo act is passed

    Congress passes the Embargo Act, which stopped all imports from Britain and exports with ALL other countries.
  • James Madison is elected

    James Madison is chosen by the republicans as ther canidate. He beats Charels Pikney of the federalists party. Being elected in a time of tension with Britain, demands for war increase.
  • Battle of Tippecanoe

    General William Harrison attacks the American Indian villiage of Prophetstown while Tecumesh was away tying to expand confederacy.
  • The War Begins

    Madison, by the spring of 1812, knew he could no longer avoid war with Britain, and on June 1, 1812 he asked congress to declare war on Britain. The war offically began on June 18, 1812 with Madison signing a decoration of war against Britain.
  • The Battle at Lake Erie

    The American and British naveys faced off during the decisve battle for Lake Erie. America Had three of the fastest figates at the time, which helped them defeat the British and reclame Lake Erie
  • The Battle of Thames

    With Lake Erie now in American hands, the British and their American Indian allies decided to retreat from the detriot area to avoid losing too much men. Howerver, Harrison and his troops cut them off. During the battle of Thames, Tecumesh was killed.
  • The British Burn Washington D.C.

    In the spring of 1814 the British won against Napoleon and claimed more forces to fight the U.S. On August 24, 1824 the british sailed into Chesapeke bay and overpowered the American defence. They then proceded to burn down most of D.C. inculding the Captiol, and the president's mansion.
  • The Battle at Lake Champlain

    British general George Prevost's goal was to capture the city of Plattsburg [on the shores of Lake Champlain] with a fighting force of 10,000-strong. The American Navel foce on the lake defeted their fleet on September 11, 1814. Fearing being surronded, the British reterated into Canada.
  • The treaty of Ghent is signed

    The British, after their deafeat at Lake Champlain, realized that to continue fighting was a wat of troops and money, and in December 24, 1814 they signed a peace treaty with America. However, word travelled slowly at the time, and did not reach America in time to stop the final battle of the War of 1812.
  • The Battle at New Orleans

    The word of the peace treaty did not reach America in time. The British marched upon the city of New Orleans, but Andrew Jackson and his men were wating for them behind thick, bullet absorbing bales of cotton. The war finally came to an end in one short, bloody battle.
