  • Impressment of sailors

    Being one of the major causes of the War of 1812, the British was taking sailors and forcing them to work on their navy ships. This lasted from 1793 and 1812. The british took more than 15,000 sailors.
  • Washington’s Proclamation of Neutrality (April 22, 1793)

    Washington declared the nation neutral in the conflict between France and Great Britain and it stopped Americans for aiding any of those countries at war.
  • Jay Treaty

    The British was seizing American ships to prevent us from trading with France. This treaty was meant to make sure the British would stop seizing our ships along with them withdrawing of their soldiers from forts in America
  • Washington’s Farewell Address

    An address where Washington warned America of Political parties because it could result in division and getting into foreign affairs. (Published in Philadelphia’s Newspaper)
  • Chesapeake-Leopard Affair

    A naval engagement where the British commander wanted permission to search the American ship for deserters. There request was declined so the Leopard fired on the USS Chesapeake. This resulted in Jefferson banning ships from staying in American ports until they got an apology
  • Embargo Act of 1807

    Jefferson forbidden trade and commerce with any foreign country. Which ended up only hurting the U.S. economy and was repealed in 1809.
  • War Hawks

    The U.S. Congress elected Henry Clay for the War Hawks which aided in the pushing for the war against Britain.
  • Tecumseh: Battle of Tippecanoe

    A fight between Americans and native Americans in Indiana. Following the Treaty of Fort Wayne, the native Americans were to sell 3 million acres of land to the U.S. government. Tecumseh, the leader of an Indian tribe, organized a group of native Americans to go against the Americans
  • War of 1812

    war between the U.S. and Britain because of Britain's violations of American rights, by blocking trade, impressing sailors, and for encouraging the Indians to fight against Americans.(ends in Feb. 18, 1815)
  • Tecumseh: The Battle of Thames

    British and Indian forces come together to battle against the Americans. In this battle Tecumseh died and it gave the U.S. control of the western theater.
  • Hartford Convention

    The Hartford Convention (in Connecticut) was a series of meeting that federalist would hold to discuss their complaints and grievances of the war of 1812 and the political problems from the federal government. (ended in Jan. 5, 1815)
  • Treaty of Ghent

    A peace treaty between the U.S. and Britain that ended the War of 1812. It stated that all conquered territory to be returned, and instruction were planned to settle the boundary of the U.S. and Canada.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    The signing of the Treaty of Ghent took a while for everybody to know about it. The British and the Americans got into one conflict’s biggest and most decisive engagements. This resulted in the U.S. winning and foiling the British plans of invasion on the American frontier.
