  • Washington’s Farewell Address

He urged the American people to avoid forming political parties.
  • Chesapeake-Leopard Affair

    The Chesapeake was was fired upon by HMS Leopard of the Royal Navy for refusing to comply with a search for deserters. Chesapeake was caught unprepared and after a short battle involving broadsides received from Leopard, the commander of Chesapeake, James Barron, surrendered his vessel to the British.
