    James Madison asked congress to declare war on Britian.The House of Representatives was 79 to 49 in favor of war and the Senate was 19 to 13 in favor of war. But winning the war was harder than declaring it is what the United States soon found out. The problem was the navy only had 16 warships and the army had less than 7,000 men

    Under General William Hull the American troops invaded Canada from Detroit. unsure of himself and fearing he didnt have enough soldiers Hull soon retreated. General Isaac Brock and his British soldiers took control of Hulls cofusion and surrounded Hols army and forced it to surrender. The British captured over 2,000 Americian soldiers making a serious defeat for the United States.

    The U.S.S Constitution defeated the British warship Guerriere ii a fierce battle. The Constitution was nicknamed "Old Ironsides." too Americians it seemed that the constitution was made of iron.

    During the battle of Lake Erie the British battered Captain Oliver Hazzared Perry`s ship and left it helpless, so Perry took his flag down and rowed to another Americian ship which he took command of. He anounced the victory by saying "we have met the enemy and tey are ours.

    The Native Americian Tecumsleh died during the battle and without his leader ship the indian confederation fell apart. Andrew Jackson an officer from Tennessee took command of the Amercian troops and won the battle.

    Andrew Jackson took command of Americian forces in Gorgia and defeated the Creeks at Horseshoe Bend during battle. A treaty ended the fighting forcing the Creeks to give up millions of acres of land.
  • Washington, D.C. Attacked and Burned

    The British made a strategy to attack Washington D.C. so Dolly Madison who was the presidents wife gathered the presidents important papers and went South. The British burned many government buildings and one of them was the White House. Amercians were shocked to learn that they couldn`t defend Washington.

    The British decided to attack Fort McHenry. Britians ships bombarded the fort throughout the night. The young Amercian Francis Scott Key who watched the attack that the American flag was still flying when the dawn came. So on the back of an old envelpoe Key wrote The Star Spangled Banner.

    Francis Scott Key noticed that the Americian flag was still flying over Fort McHenry so on the nback of an old envelopehe wrote the Star Spangled Banner to tell the story of his nights.
  • Hartford Convention

    Delagates from New England met in Hartford, Connecticut. Most were federalists who disliked a republican president. The delegates threatened to leave the union if the war continued.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    American John Quincy Adams siad "Nothing was adjusted,nothing was settled" to sum up the treaty which was signed earlier in Ghent, Belgium. The United States and Britian agreed to restore prewar condition.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    The British sailed up the Mississippi River and they attacked New Orleans on January 8. The British lost 2,000 soldiers in a deadly fire beforer signing a treaty to end the war.
