    Tension was high when James Madison took office in 1809. in 1810 two nationalist, Henry Clay of kentucky and John C. Calhoun of south carolina became leaders of the house of rep. To most americans, the countries honor was at stake. They felt a new sence of nationalism( pride in ones nation).

    A war hawk is someone who is eager for war with Great Britian. Clay Calhoun, and his supportes were all war hawks. Many New Englanders beieved that war with Great Britian would hurt the american trade. Relationships with Great Britian worsend steadily in early months of 1812. In the spring of 1812 Great Britian told Americans that they would continue impressing saolors. in June of 1812 cingress declared war with great Britian.

The navy had 16 warships and the military was small with only 7000 men.

This ensures that Americans had control of Lake Erie for the rest of the war, witch alowed the Americans to recover Detroit, and win the Battle Of Thames. This was on of the biggest battles of the War Of 1812.
